Hymn to Agni
Rigveda X.191 is a sūkta (hymn of praise) from Maṇḍala 10 of the Rigveda, one of the 1,028 hymns organized within the ten books of the oldest Veda. The Rigveda was composed approximately 1700–1100 BCE in Vedic Sanskrit and preserved through oral transmission across millennia.
This is a Good Works Translation produced by the New Tianmu Anglican Church from the Sanskrit of the Śākala recension.
Time and again, O Agni, thou mighty bull, thou drawest all things together from the stranger's hand.
Thou art kindled where refreshment hath passed— bring thou goodly gifts to us in this place.
Come ye together; speak ye as one;
let your thoughts be joined in one accord.
As did the gods in days of old, who came to one mind,
and in reverence drew near unto their share of the offering.
One is their sacred word, one their gathering, one their thought and the sight of their hearts.
I speak now a word held in common for you all; and with a shared gift, I make offering on your behalf.
Let your aim be as one; let your hearts be as one.
Let your mind be as one mind—
that your way together be full of good.

saṁ-sam id yuvase vṛṣann agne viśvāny arya ā |
iḻas pade sam idhyase sa no vasūny ā bhara || 1 ||
saṁ gacchadhvaṁ saṁ vadadhvaṁ saṁ vo manāṁsi jānatām |
devā bhāgaṁ yathā pūrve saṁjānānā upāsate || 2 ||
samāno mantraḥ samitiḥ samānī samānam manaḥ saha cittam eṣām |
samānam mantram abhi mantraye vaḥ samānena vo haviṣā juhomi || 3 ||
samānī va ākūtiḥ samānā hṛdayāni vaḥ |
