Hymn to Agni
Rigveda X.62 is a sūkta (hymn of praise) from Maṇḍala 10 of the Rigveda, one of the 1,028 hymns organized within the ten books of the oldest Veda. The Rigveda was composed approximately 1700–1100 BCE in Vedic Sanskrit and preserved through oral transmission across millennia.
This is a Good Works Translation produced by the New Tianmu Anglican Church from the Sanskrit of the Śākala recension.
Ye who, anointed with sacrifice and the sacred gift, found fellowship with Indra and were made deathless, for you, O Aṅgirases, may good fortune abound.
Receive now the seed of Manu, ye of wise hearts.
The Fathers who drove forth the wealth of kine and broke the cave of Vala in truth, at the year's great turning— long life be yours, O Aṅgirases.
Receive now the seed of Manu, ye of wise hearts.
They who with truth bade the Sun arise in the heavens, who spread wide the bosom of Mother Earth— may fair offspring be yours, O Aṅgirases.
Receive now the seed of Manu, ye of wise hearts.
He who sitteth at the navel of the rite speaketh sweetly in the hall— ye seers, whose sons are gods, incline your ears.
May holy speech abide with you, O Aṅgirases.
Receive now the seed of Manu, ye of wise hearts.
These are the seers of manifold guise; they hold deep breathings of the spirit.
They are the sons of Aṅgiras, and from Agni were they born.
The shapely ones who sprang from Agni and from heaven— Navagva, Daśagva, fairest among the Aṅgirases— with the gods they walk, and freely give.
With Indra as their yoke-mate, the singers loosed the pen where kine and horses were held.
A thousand cows with notched ears they gave me, and among the gods did they win great name.
Let this Manu wax and spread as doth a tender shoot— he who, with wide hand, giveth a thousand cows and a hundred steeds in one generous breath.
None may lay hold on him, no more than one may grasp the back of the heavens.
The gift of Sāvarṇya floweth forth as a river without end.
Lo, even two slaves of foreign tongue, set to their tasks with their due gear, along with kine in great number,
Yadu and Turva have freely bestowed.
Let Manu, great giver, lord of hosts, come to no harm.
Let his holy gift run straight as the sun's own path.
May the gods stretch out the days of Sāvarṇi, beneath whose watch we, unwearied, did win the meed of triumph.

ye yajñena dakṣiṇayā samaktā indrasya sakhyam amṛtatvam ānaśa |
tebhyo bhadram aṅgiraso vo astu prati gṛbhṇīta mānavaṁ sumedhasaḥ || 1 ||
ya udājan pitaro gomayaṁ vasv ṛtenābhindan parivatsare valam |
dīrghāyutvam aṅgiraso vo astu prati gṛbhṇīta mānavaṁ sumedhasaḥ || 2 ||
ya ṛtena sūryam ārohayan divy aprathayan pṛthivīm mātaraṁ vi |
suprajāstvam aṅgiraso vo astu prati gṛbhṇīta mānavaṁ sumedhasaḥ || 3 ||
ayaṁ nābhā vadati valgu vo gṛhe devaputrā ṛṣayas tac chṛṇotana |
