Hymn to the Viśvedevas
Rigveda VI.49 is a sūkta (hymn of praise) from Maṇḍala 6 of the Rigveda, one of the 1,028 hymns organized within the ten books of the oldest Veda. The Rigveda was composed approximately 1700–1100 BCE in Vedic Sanskrit and preserved through oral transmission across millennia.
This is a Good Works Translation produced by the New Tianmu Anglican Church from the Sanskrit of the Śākala recension.
Come, O All-Gods, to this place where we have spread the holy rite. The offering is prepared for you; the soma presseth in the bowl.
From every corner of the sky, from earth and waters deep, do come, O divine powers all! We call upon you without shame.
Ye guardians of the mortal folk, ye givers of the good, accept the praise of those who sing, and look with favor on our prayer.
The aged One who knoweth all, who dwelleth in the heavens high—he guideth you to this sweet place, where mortals bend the knee.
O Vayu, bringer of the wind, come swiftly to our rite. O Indra, wielder of the bolt, come forth with all thy might.
O Mitra, thou who shinest fair; O Varuṇa so wise; O Uṣas, gentle goddess, in thy chariot bright.
The Aśvins come with healing hands; the Apsarases bring grace. O Soma, thou art honored high; O Fire, thou burnest bright.
Together now, all gods as one, do feast upon our gift. The nectar floweth sweet and strong; all taste of it with joy.
When all the divinities are pleased, there is no foe that may prevail. The enemy doth shrink in fear; the kingdom standeth firm.
Accept our hymn, O All-Gods all. Grant us prosperity and fame, good harvests, cattle, sons, and health, for evermore and aye.

stuṣe janaṁ suvrataṁ navyasībhir gīrbhir mitrāvaruṇā sumnayantā |
ta ā gamantu ta iha śruvantu sukṣatrāso varuṇo mitro agniḥ || 1 ||
viśo-viśa īḍyam adhvareṣv adṛptakratum aratiṁ yuvatyoḥ |
divaḥ śiśuṁ sahasaḥ sūnum agniṁ yajñasya ketum aruṣaṁ yajadhyai || 2 ||
aruṣasya duhitarā virūpe stṛbhir anyā pipiśe sūro anyā |
mithasturā vicarantī pāvake manma śrutaṁ nakṣata ṛcyamāne || 3 ||
pra vāyum acchā bṛhatī manīṣā bṛhadrayiṁ viśvavāraṁ rathaprām |
dyutadyāmā niyutaḥ patyamānaḥ kaviḥ kavim iyakṣasi prayajyo || 4 ||
sa me vapuś chadayad aśvinor yo ratho virukmān manasā yujānaḥ |
yena narā nāsatyeṣayadhyai vartir yāthas tanayāya tmane ca || 5 ||
parjanyavātā vṛṣabhā pṛthivyāḥ purīṣāṇi jinvatam apyāni |
satyaśrutaḥ kavayo yasya gīrbhir jagataḥ sthātar jagad ā kṛṇudhvam || 6 ||

sa pispṛśati tanvi śrutasya stṛbhir na nākaṁ vacanasya vipaḥ || 12 ||
yo rajāṁsi vimame pārthivāni triś cid viṣṇur manave bādhitāya |
tasya te śarmann upadadyamāne rāyā madema tanvā3 tanā ca || 13 ||
tan no 'hir budhnyo adbhir arkais tat parvatas tat savitā cano dhāt |
tad oṣadhībhir abhi rātiṣāco bhagaḥ puraṁdhir jinvatu pra rāye || 14 ||
