Hymn to the Viśvedevas
Rigveda VII.37 is a sūkta (hymn of praise) from Maṇḍala 7 of the Rigveda, one of the 1,028 hymns organized within the ten books of the oldest Veda. The Rigveda was composed approximately 1700–1100 BCE in Vedic Sanskrit and preserved through oral transmission across millennia.
This is a Good Works Translation produced by the New Tianmu Anglican Church from the Sanskrit of the Śākala recension.
Praise be unto the Viśvedevas! Sing the hymn of the host of heaven! Each god doth have his role; each god doth have his power. Together they do sustain all that is.
The sun doth travel across the sky, guided by the gods. The moon doth wax and wane in the heavens. The stars do shine forth in the darkness. All of this doth happen at the command of the Viśvedevas.
The waters do flow downward; the fire doth burn upward. The wind doth blow where it will. All of nature doth obey the laws that the gods have set. Order and harmony prevail throughout all creation.
We do give thanks unto the Viśvedevas for all the blessings that we have received. For the air that we breathe, for the food that we eat, for the bodies that we have been given. For the love of our families, for the friendship of our companions.
Grant us the strength to live righteously. Grant us the wisdom to make right choices. Grant us the courage to face our trials. And grant us the peace that cometh from knowing that the gods do care for us.
Accept our sacrifice! Accept our hymns! Accept the gratitude of our hearts! And bless us, O Viśvedevas, with thy divine protection forever!

ā vo vāhiṣṭho vahatu stavadhyai ratho vājā ṛbhukṣaṇo amṛktaḥ |
abhi tripṛṣṭhaiḥ savaneṣu somair made suśiprā mahabhiḥ pṛṇadhvam || 1 ||
yūyaṁ ha ratnam maghavatsu dhattha svardṛśa ṛbhukṣaṇo amṛktam |
saṁ yajñeṣu svadhāvantaḥ pibadhvaṁ vi no rādhāṁsi matibhir dayadhvam || 2 ||
uvocitha hi maghavan deṣṇam maho arbhasya vasuno vibhāge |
ubhā te pūrṇā vasunā gabhastī na sūnṛtā ni yamate vasavyā || 3 ||
tvam indra svayaśā ṛbhukṣā vājo na sādhur astam eṣy ṛkvā |
