Before the law, all are equal. Even the immortals and Buddhas of the Three Realms who descend into the mortal world must submit to testing, so that the truly worthy may be distinguished. You have been turning on the wheel of rebirth for a long, long time. Heaven's review selects only the finest among you — can you afford not to practice with all your heart? Where does your peace rest? Is your heart truly settled in the temple right now?
You all know the story of me, Yue Fei, and Qin Hui. Loyalty and treachery were judged and separated. I once led Qin Hui's spirit into the Buddha hall to manifest his fate. Qin Hui slandered me before the Emperor. Twelve golden tablets recalled me from the battlefield. He condemned me on a charge that never existed — "perhaps" was all the reason he needed. For that crime, his spirit was imprisoned in the Avici Hell, beyond hope of release. But I was honored posthumously as Wumu, the Loyal and Martial. My faithfulness was written into the history books. Now, in the White Sun era, I serve as one of the Four Great Judicial Lords.
Practitioners! How do you tell loyalty from treachery? In a single thought.
For more than sixty thousand years, all beings have overturned their own inner Buddha-hall, and their sins have piled up like mountains. In one lifetime, can you really repay what you owe? At the hour of your death, the sins you have redeemed amount to no more than dust on a fingernail — while the sins still unredeemed are as vast as the soil of the earth. Even if you gave every waking moment, day and night without rest, to the sacred work, you might still not clear the debt of sixty thousand years.
Now you have encountered the great mercy of the White Sun era — Heaven's compassion reaches down to rescue all beings. In the underworld, repentant souls cry out. When people in the living world offer merit on their behalf, it helps to lighten their punishment and turn aside their suffering. Heaven may grant them a chance for forgiveness. But the turning of a single thought brings fortune or disaster. Do not say that a small evil does no harm — even a small evil creates karma. Seek to be without fault. Bodily misfortune, incomplete faculties, the many obstacles you face — these come from breaking precepts and committing wrongs in former lives. People keep pressing themselves into the mold of sin, and so they inevitably taste the bitter fruit and become entangled in adversity. In these final days of reckoning, at the crossroads of rising and falling, if you still cannot bring forth sincerity, if you cannot thoroughly reform while you have the chance to practice the Way — lying like a lump of soft clay, too lazy to strive, comfortable in your complacency — do you know what end awaits you? If you do not practice with genuine effort, when your sins grow too heavy for pardon, your fall will be like oil pressed into flour — once mixed, it can never be separated. Bound in suffering for countless ages, when you finally emerge, what year will it be? If your daily practice is not sincere before Heaven, if you lack a loyal heart and a righteous courage, how will you move the immortals and Buddhas to bless you and open your wisdom?
In this third and final period, Heaven opens its grace to save. Under the protection of Heaven's mercy and the virtue of the Teacher, you are forgiven to the extent that you repent, you are blessed to the extent that you serve — it all depends on your heart. Right now, in this time of heavenly opportunity, you have the chance to repent and rebuild, to cultivate your character and return to the truth. Seize this precious moment. Repent genuinely. Practice without repeating your mistakes. Build merit and fulfill your vows to settle your karmic debts.
In Buddhism, there are many methods of repentance — the Liang Emperor Repentance, the Amitabha Repentance, the Great Compassion Repentance, the Medicine Buddha Repentance, the Pure Land Repentance, the Lotus Repentance, and more. In Christianity, there is confession, self-examination, heartfelt contrition, firm resolution, declaration, and penance — praying to stay far from sin. And the White Sun practitioner? Each day you burn incense and bow, and within that ritual is the Vow-Repentance Text. Each month on the first and fifteenth you repent. At the great annual ceremonies you repent. At year's end you make a final accounting.
But have you truly repented? The Repentance Text declares your heart to Heaven. Each day you examine your words, actions, and thoughts for sin, fault, or error. Is that not so? Yet knowing your faults and not repenting — what use is that? You recite the words: "Each day I examine my speech, conduct, and mind for sin, fault, or error... from this day forward I will bitterly reform." But have you reformed? What is true repentance? To be ashamed within and to let that shame show in your conduct. To confess your past wrongs and never commit them again. To regret your future errors before they happen. To awaken to every kind of evil and delusion — not waiting for karma to strike before you take the fruit seriously. To sever these wrongs forever and never repeat them. That is repentance.
In this life you must repent the sins, errors, and ingrained habits of every life since beginningless time — whether committed deliberately or by accident. Repent the past. Resolve against the future. Never repeat. Let your words match your heart, and let your actions reach the resting place of the highest good. In the courts of the underworld, the tormented souls repent with genuine hearts, yet their suffering is not yet spent. They depend on the living to perform merit and direct it toward them — to lighten their pain, to pry open the gates of hell so they may be saved.
White Sun practitioners — after repenting, you must also redirect your merit. Otherwise, even after confession the old karma returns to harass you, and you offend again and create new karma, around and around without end. The karmic debts of sixty thousand years require not only repentance but unceasing acts of merit to settle the accounts. Beyond repentance and merit and sacred service, you must also endure whatever karmic suffering visits you. Let it teach you the impermanence and bitterness of human life, so that you truly awaken. Debts are collected. Grudges are settled. Wrongs are repaid. When your body suffers and illness surrounds you, can you blame the old creditors for coming? Understand the law of karmic retribution — you cannot afford to drift through your days in comfort.
So many worthy practitioners have declared their repentance before Heaven and made their vows — but how many times sincere? How many times false? Do you know what it means to be true to your word? It is like swallowing hot soup and forgetting the burn the moment it passes your throat. When hardship strikes you learn your lesson. In that moment of pain you know to repent. But as time passes, you offend again.
Ji Gong himself stands as your guarantor. But what do you offer as proof that you will truly practice and truly serve? Without genuine practice, without genuine repentance, you invite trials and demonic testing upon yourself. You deceive Heaven. Every sin, every grudge — the old creditors grow more furious, cling to you more tightly, give you no peace. Neither Ji Gong nor the Ancient Buddha Dizang can mediate for you. Not because they lack compassion — but because your sincerity is not enough. The creditors will not release you. You reap what you sow. Debts have debtors. Karma's justice is fair. The immortals and Buddhas wish to reconcile on your behalf, but they must see your sincerity, your merit, your fulfilled vows. Do you understand? Old karma not yet cleared, new sins already arising. Old wrongs not yet extinguished, new errors already growing. Do you know how to repay the Teacher's grace? Think of Jesus Christ, who suffered for the sins of all beings. Think of Ji Gong, who bears the weight of your karma on his shoulders — and all the rescue work of the celestial host. What will you offer in return? Do you know how much they carry for you? When you make a vow before Heaven, promising to do something for the unseen world, and afterward you retreat and cannot fulfill it — when the test comes and you do not follow through — does this not require repentance?
The deluded mind stirs. You make a vow and do not fulfill it. When obstacles arise you slander and create discord. Does this not require repentance? Repentance is not a formality. Heaven is a scale, and its judgment has rules. And in your own heart there is also a scale — weigh your own good and evil, your merit and your fault. If you make a vow and do not act on it, you accept Heaven's punishment upon yourself. The ten great vows you declared — you opened your mouth and spoke them, yet you repeat the same mistakes, committing new wrongs. Does your own heart's thunder not fill you with dread? The Zhou dynasty was old, yet its virtue was renewed. At the New Year you hang fresh couplets — everywhere the joy of beginning again. Cast off the old. Take on the new.
They say a river may be rerouted, but a person's nature is hard to change. All the more reason to devote yourself to practice. Cut away the impure habits. Purify your energy. Youth looks to the future; the old review the past. Guard against error the way you guard against a thief every night. Do you understand? When you have faults, correct them yourself. Mend your own clothes before someone points out the tear from behind. To wait until others whisper behind your back before you realize and reform — that is too late. The work of self-cultivation begins with self-examination, with looking inward. Mencius said: "When I look within and find sincerity, there is no greater joy." Each day, reflect on what you have done wrong. The rules you set for yourself, the vows you declared before Heaven, the precepts and standards of the temple — honor them before Heaven and Earth, before the immortals and Buddhas, before the spirits, according to your own conscience. Do you understand?
You are all in the same boat. Help each other along. Let your conscience repent and your feet touch the ground. Practice genuinely. Like a mighty dragon crossing the river — though the karmic weight of lifetimes clings to you, have the courage to rise. Everyone faces testing. Only through genuine practice and sincere reform, growing in virtue day by day, can you turn disaster into blessing. Offer your sincerity before Heaven and pray for mercy to turn aside calamity and catastrophe. Your elders set the example — follow what they began, walk as they walked. Can you do this? Each day when you prostrate, let it be a true examination of your words, actions, and mind. Repent your sins, faults, and errors with sincerity and declare them before Heaven, praying for mercy and forgiveness, for the turning aside of karma and catastrophe. The times are not what they once were. The hour is urgent. Disasters press close. Only by standing together — repenting truly, building merit, ceasing to create new offenses, establishing merit that does not leak, joining hearts to shoulder the calamity and save the world, directing your merit outward — at the year-end accounting, everything will be reviewed. Day by day you are tested. The truly worthy are forged in the fire. To become the highest kind of person, you must practice with every fiber of your being. Let those with virtue lead the way.
Gradually, the heavenly plan will be revealed. To receive Heaven's mercy and redirection, you must demonstrate real improvement and renewal. Only then will Heaven open the way for a great expansion of the work. So bring forth your sincerity. Pray before Heaven for the forgiveness of sins, for the turning of fortune, that beings in all three realms may have the chance to return home. Your ritual propriety has gradually lost its shape — can you perform the rites carelessly? Can you treat them with indifference? If you are indifferent to the sacred rules, you are indifferent to your own matter of life and death. In every prostration, repentance means ceasing to create karma. Only then can each thought carry you beyond the wheel of rebirth — how can you not practice this? Even while prostrating, if your mind wanders and cannot offer itself purely — know that you carry a heavy burden. The sins of sixty thousand years — to clear them in this one life, is that not immensely difficult? Hold a heart of humility and the innocence of a child. Pray to the Eternal Mother for forgiveness. Only under the shelter of Heaven's grace do you have any chance of turning things around.
Do not harbor doubts or divided loyalties. Do not overturn your inner Buddha-hall. How will you receive the blessing of grace? All beings are but grains in the ocean — drifting through birth and death, endlessly reincarnating, stained with the dust of the world. Come to the Buddha hall and let it wash you clean. Let your conscience shine through. Repent truly, and there will be nothing to regret. Do you want to settle everything in this one life? Then succeed where others fail. Do what others are unwilling to do — sacrifice, serve, give. I trust that you will keep the promise you have made today and not become people whose words are empty.
I have received the imperial decree and speak today on its authority. Take my words to heart. Do not commit further wrongs. Do not transgress the law. Examine your body and mind. Wash away the stains. Settle your karmic accounts. The great mission is to save all beings from the sea of suffering — there is only one bright road, and it is the Heavenly Way. My words today are not meant to restrict you but to remind you of your duty — what you were always meant to do. Build a strong foundation now, so that when the great test comes, when the storm arrives, you will not sway back and forth and become a spectacle. Before the law, all are equal. Even the immortals submit to Heaven's crucible. The unseen world selects and examines, adjusting your rank and determining your fruit according to your merit. It all depends on what you do from here.
I, Yue Fei, served my country with undivided loyalty. I hope that you practitioners will be loyal to your temple, treat the temple as your home, persevere from beginning to end, and follow the great and virtuous ones to the very last. No storm, no blow, no breaking force should shake your courage or your faith in the Way. Show what you are made of. I will say no more today. Do not be lost. Do not repeat your mistakes. March boldly toward the way of the sages — only then will you receive great help. Examine yourselves and reflect. Do not let the words of the immortals pass through you like wind in your ears.

法律之前,人人平等,三界仙真及仙佛倒裝降世也要接受考驗,辨別真賢。爾等輪迴已久,上天審核亦是選精拔粹,爾等能不真修實煉嗎?安心在那?此時心有定在道場嗎?大家皆知吾岳飛與秦檜之事,忠奸判分,吾曾領秦檜入佛堂顯化。秦檜向皇上進讒言,十二金牌將吾招回,以「莫須有」的罪名將我陷害;秦檜之罪令其靈拘阿鼻地獄難翻身。而吾追謐「武穆」,忠義留記汗青,白陽擔任四大法律在之一。賢士!忠良、奸詭如何分辨?在一念之間,六萬多年來,眾生自性佛堂顛倒,罪業如山疊,你們一世所為,能夠補得了前愆嗎?到了臨終之時,所贖之罪業也不過如爪上的塵埃而已;未贖的罪業如大地之土。爾等六萬多年來所造的因果、罪債,你一輩子完全付出,日夜不懈地投入辦聖事,也未必有辦法還清。
今時逢遇白陽普渡天年,上天慈恩赦救、搭援眾生!地府的罪魂懺悔,再加上世人做功德迴嚮,助他們撥轉業苦刑罰,上天可給予懺罪沾恩的機會。而人一旦念頭的轉動,就有旦夕的禍福,不要說小惡無傷大雅,小惡也會造下因果,所以應求無過。肢體的缺憾、諸根不具、所遭多逆阻,是破戒、犯下罪非而來的,世人常往罪業的模子中塞,當然必嚐受惡報、遭受逆阻之牽纏。所以在於末秋升降關頭,還無法拿出誠心在果報中補過,徹底改過,有機修道,卻像一灘軟泥巴一般不知精進,因循偷安,你們知會有什麼下場?若不真修實煉,罪大難赦時,爾等之墮落則如油入麵一般,出苦海永無期。萬塗一報不計年,出得來時是何年?日常修行未能真誠表天,缺乏忠肝義膽,如何感動仙佛加持讓智慧開啟呢?三期中上天開恩赦救,天恩師德保護下,賢士們懺悔到那,行功立德到那,上天才赦救撥轉到那,皆應於你們的心。正當天時地利,在於道場得有懺悔建德、修身歸真之機,當要把握珍惜良機,懺悔真修不貳過,行功立德,了愿償業?
佛教懺法很多,如梁皇寶懺、彌陀懺法、大悲懺法、藥師懺、淨土懺、法華懺法……等。基督教有那些懺法?告解、省察、痛悔、定改、告明、補贖,祈求遠離罪惡。而白陽修士每日燒香禮拜當中,有個愿懺文,每月初一、十五懺悔、老大典懺悔、年終總懺悔,爾等都有真心懺悔嗎?懺悔文向上天表白,每日自檢身、心、言有什麼罪過錯,對不對?(對)知而不懺有何用!你們不是說:「……每日自檢言、行、心,是否有罪過錯,……今後痛改前非嗎?」(懺悔文)你們痛改前非了嗎?何謂「懺悔」?慚責於內,愧發於外;懺其前愆永不復犯,悔其後過,從此各種惡迷等罪都覺悟,不等業力現前才受果報,未來諸業能先覺醒,皆永斷永不復作,這才叫「懺悔」。
今生乃自往昔,無始以來之罪障、過錯、習氣都要懺悔,懺其前愆、悔其後過,不論是有意或無意之過,都要懺悔之後不再犯,心口如一,所行所為,到達所應止的所在—止於至善。在地府各殿中受刑的罪魂真心懺悔,可是苦業、刑罰未消,唯靠世人做功德助他們撥轉、減輕痛苦刑罰,助他們懺開地獄門,得到拯救。
白陽修士們除了懺悔,亦同樣要做迴嚮,否則業未消,懺過以後業障又來干擾,再犯過造業,循環不已。所以六萬多年來的業障因果,除了要懺悔外,還要不斷行功立德,了償因果業債。除了懺悔、擔天職辦聖事、行功立德、做功德;一方面承受業報的折磨,體悟無常人間之苦,你才會覺悟,有債討債、有怨討怨、有冤討冤,當爾等身體欠安、為病苦所擾,你們能怪冤欠纏擾嗎?了解因果討報,絕不能安逸度日。多少的賢良向上天表白懺悔的發愿,幾回真、幾回假,你們可知什麼是「言而有信」?像熱湯嚥下喉嚨就忘了燙,爾等一時遇到阻難橫逆,吃虧會學乖,一時之間知道懺悔,但久之又犯過。
濟公活佛為你們作擔保,但你們拿什麼作保證履行真修實做的合約?不真修、不真懺、招來考魔,欺騙上天,一切的罪、一切的冤,觸怒冤欠更不甘心,纏擾更緊,讓爾等不安順。濟公活佛、地藏古佛無力調解,並非仙佛不慈悲,乃是爾等自己作為不夠誠心,冤欠不肯放過你們,自作自受,冤有頭、債有主,因果討算乃公平,仙佛慈悲要為眾生和解,也要看爾等誠心如何,行功了愿如何,知不知?前因未了,後罪又起;前罪未滅,後過又生,你們懂得報答老的恩典嗎?像耶穌基督為眾生贖罪而受難,濟公活佛為了眾生擔了多少罪業,及諸天仙佛的相救,爾等拿什麼來報答恩典啊!擔了多少你們知道嗎?像你們對上天表白,答應無形要做的事,事後推悔不能做全,考驗一到而不實做,這需不需要懺悔呢?
識心妄動,立愿而不實做,遇到阻難即妄生毀謗,是非紛雜,這需不需要懺悔呢?懺悔不是形式化,周天為秤枰,有律則的審判,而在人自心中也有一個秤枰,自己秤秤看善惡功過。表了愿若不照愿而行,甘願天譴雷誅,十條大愿所表,發了口愿,卻重蹈覆轍,再犯罪非,是不是自己的心雷也會令你惶恐不安?周雖舊邦思鼎革,去舊換新,過新年換春聯,桃符處處欣更新,去舊換新成新氣象。
所謂「江山易改,稟性難移」既是如此,更要努力精修,將不好的氣稟刪除,去濁存清。少年望將來,老年鑑既往,防於犯錯,如夜夜防賊一般,知不知?當要有過必改,衣服要自己穿破,不要讓別人從背後指點破,有過自改,莫要等別人背後指指點點,方知覺悟改過,那就慢了。存養之功以省察為先,反觀自照為先,孟子云:「反身而誠,樂莫大焉。」每日回思所犯,自己所立之條規,向上天所表願意遵守之愿力與規行,道場之律則佛規,當要不欺天地、不欺仙佛、不欺鬼神,依自己良心來恪遵,知不知?
爾等同是一條船上的人,彼此互相提攜,天良懺,腳跟必要點地,實修實煉,如強龍過江,雖然累世業障纏身,但是卻要勇敢做起,否則人人有考驗,唯有真修實煉,改過自新,德日新,才能轉禍成福,誠心表白,求於上天來助撥轉劫數災難。爾等之老前人立了典範,爾等應該上行下效,一貫遵行,辦得到嗎?每日叩首做為日日檢點言、行、心,懺悔罪過錯,誠心來表,求於上天赦救開恩,撥轉業障、災劫,因此天時非比以往,天時緊急、災劫急臨,唯靠眾志成城,懺悔真修、行功立德,不再造罪過錯,建立不漏之功德,大家齊心頂劫救難,功德做迴嚮,在於年終總懺悔之時,還要一一的檢核,日日皆在驗核,煉就真賢。要做第一等人,就要實修實煉,有德者來效法追進。漸漸天機顯現,要得天恩撥轉,必要爾等大大改進更新,上天才能撥轉開恩賜予機緣大宏辦,所以爾等誠心發出來,向上天祈求赦罪開恩、撥轉機緣,讓三曹眾原靈皆有機渡回天。禮節做到後來都變形了,禮節可以做得囫圖吞棗嗎?馬虎不在意嗎?你不在意佛規,就是輕忽自己的生死大事,在叩頭禮節當中,懺悔就是不再造業,你們才能念念出輪迴,怎可不實做呢?叩頭當中還意念紛雜,不能專一單純以表,當自知帶業深重,六萬多年來的罪障,你今生要了完,是不是非常不易?當要更存慚愧之心、赤子之心,求於上天老赦罪,唯有在天恩的護庇之下,爾等才有轉機的機會。
莫存三心二意,自性佛堂莫顛倒,如何得恩典的庇臨?眾生如海中一粟,流浪生死、不斷輪迴,沾染濁塵,來佛堂能洗淨一切,顯出你們的天良,真懺真悔則無悔,你們要今生一次了完嗎?要難中得逞,為人家所不能為,做人所不願做的犧牲奉獻,相信你們今天所表,不做「言而無信」之人。
吾今日領受旨代為宣諭,吾之所言皆要體會於心,莫犯過錯,莫觸法律,自檢身心,去除濁垢,了消因果,大機救眾生出苦海,唯行天道明路一途。今日訓勉爾等,非是限制,乃是爾本份當為,為了日後道務突飛猛進,本來就應奠好基礎,若有大考驗,風波來臨,才不致於東搖西擺給眾生看笑話。法律之前人人平等,仙佛亦是接受天鼎地爐,無形中上天甄選,以調品位,依功定果,看爾等日後表現了。俺岳飛精忠報國不貳心,望爾等賢士忠於道場,以道場為家,有始克終,永隨大德者參辦到底,任何風浪、打擊、摧折,打動不了你們以信心,向道的勇氣堅定,好好表現一番,今日吾就言至此,莫徬徨,不貳過,向聖賢之道勇邁進,才能得大助,爾等自檢反省,仙佛之言莫當耳邊風,俺辭叩於皇。
