A short liturgy composed by Atiśa (982–1054 CE), to be performed before any engagement with Buddhist scripture — whether reciting aloud from memory or reading silently from a book. First one supplicates the buddhas and bodhisattvas, makes the sevenfold offering of Samantabhadra, and establishes loving-kindness toward all beings. Then, three times, one speaks a confession of one's own limitation and a prayer that the sound of the Dharma bring all who hear it to the fearlessness of a Tathāgata. Found in the Madhyamaka section of the Degé Tengyur without a Tohoku catalogue number, immediately following Atiśa's own confession rite (D3974).
Homage to all buddhas and bodhisattvas.
First, a bodhisattva who wishes to recite the Dharma aloud, or who wishes to read the Dharma from a book, should make supplication to all the buddhas and bodhisattvas of the world-realms of the ten directions, focusing the mind upon them entirely. Following the rite of the aspiration-prayer of the conduct of the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Samantabhadra, one should make offerings properly through the seven branches, beginning with prostration.
After that, one should settle the mind in loving-kindness toward all sentient beings. Having thus contemplated with genuine, heightened aspiration, the following words should be recited three times:
"The meaning of a single word of the Dharma taught by the Blessed One is also the meaning of all dharmas — yet I, due to the fault of my own karma, have little wisdom and a dull mind. Even so, having taken up the scriptures of the Blessed One and made my recitation, may the sound of the Dharma reach the ears of whatever sentient beings hear it, and may they attain the fearlessness of the Tathāgata.
"The meaning of a single word of the Dharma taught by the Blessed One is also the meaning of all dharmas — yet I, due to the fault of my own karma, have little wisdom and a dull mind. Even so, whatever Dharma texts I read from books — may the sound of the Dharma reaching the ears of whatever sentient beings hear it, may they all attain the fearlessness of the Tathāgata."

Composed by the great paṇḍita, the glorious Dīpaṃkaraśrījñāna (Atiśa, 982–1054 CE). This text appears in the Madhyamaka section of the Degé Tengyur (Volume 112, folios 255b.3–256a.2) without a Tohoku catalogue number, immediately following D3974. Unlike D3973 and D3974, which include translator colophons naming Indian and Tibetan collaborators, this text credits only "the great paṇḍita Dīpaṃkaraśrījñāna" — indicating it is Atiśa's own Tibetan composition, not a translation from Sanskrit. No Sanskrit title is given.
