Śrīvanaratna (དཔལ་ནགས་ཀྱི་རིན་པོ་ཆེ) — Buddhastava-daśa
Ten verses of prostration to Śākyamuni Buddha, each illuminating a different aspect of the Awakened One — from the first generation of the enlightenment-mind through his final guidance of all beings to liberation. Composed by Śrīvanaratna, an Indian paṇḍita, and translated into Tibetan by his student Dāridra Sāgarasena. From the bsTod tshogs (Collected Praises) section of the Degé Tengyur, Toh 1154. Never before translated into English.

I
From first awakening the seed of supreme enlightenment,
You grant deathless liberation for the benefit of all beings.
Radiant with the light of true blazing wisdom, victorious over Māra —
I bow in reverence to the Victorious One, Śākyamuni.
II
Holy sovereign among sages, supreme protector of others,
Firmly established in supreme purity through single-pointed diligence,
Powerful lord, masterful over adversaries of every intellect —
I bow to the Lord of Deer, Śākyamuni.
III
Having attained supreme glory from Dīpaṃkara and the Buddhas before,
Bearing the blazing precious jewel upon the crown,
Praised by Brahmā and the ageless ones, lord of the earth —
I bow in reverence to Śākyamuni, who has cast off all evil.
IV
Sage adorned on all sides with vast ornaments of light,
Brilliant radiance of fire and water, fully expanding in clarity,
Joyfully pervading even the realm of Brahmā’s world —
Today I bow in reverence to Śākyamuni.
V
Supreme among all beings, teacher of the highest truth,
Skilled in method and accomplished in the rites
That bring gods and titans of the world to nirvāṇa —
I bow in reverence to Śākyamuni, worthy of all honour.
VI
Abiding in manifest joy and compassion among the sages,
Through supreme concentration, bewildering desire and aggression,
Endowed with excellent speech like a supreme reflection —
I bow in reverence to the Holy One, Śākyamuni.
VII
By the sage’s upholding of the dharma, disease and plague are vanquished.
At his feet, captivating crown-jewels are reverently laid.
Ever abiding in the samādhi of union —
I bow in reverence to Śākyamuni, supreme bestower.
VIII
Holy lion among sages, supreme lion among humankind,
Over whom the lord of Brahmā’s Enduring Realm raises the supreme parasol,
Before whom the queen of wealth-holders bows with reverent hands —
I bow in reverence to Śākyamuni, worthy of all prostration.
IX
Crown Sugata among all who bring peace,
Having abandoned every fault, an ocean-treasure of virtues,
Like a treasure-house that dispels the suffering of all beings —
I bow in reverence to Śākyamuni, remover of evil.
X
Sage who through diligence accomplishes the welfare of all beings,
Protector like the lord of garuḍas, truly guiding
Fallen beings to the bliss of the far shore —
I bow in reverence to the Teacher, Śākyamuni.

The Ten Praises of Glorious Śākyamuni (Sanskrit: Buddhastava-daśa; Tibetan: དཔལ་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པའི་བསྟོད་པ་བཅུ་པ) was composed by the Indian paṇḍita Śrīvanaratna (དཔལ་ནགས་ཀྱི་རིན་པོ་ཆེ, “Precious Jewel of the Glorious Forest”) and translated into Tibetan by Dāridra Sāgarasena (རྒྱ་མཚོའི་སྡེ, “Ocean Army”), who describes himself as sustained by the kindness of that great paṇḍita. The scribe was Lodön Jampa Künga (བློ་དང་ལྡན་པ་བྱམས་པ་ཀུན་དགའ).
Good Works Translation from Classical Tibetan. Translated by Rinchen (རིན་ཆེན, Tibetan Translator, Life 202) of the New Tianmu Anglican Church. The translation is independently derived from the Degé Tengyur Tibetan text (Esukhia etext, CC0). No prior English translation is known to exist.
Verse II preserves a textual variant from the Esukhia etext: རི་དགས / རི་དྭགས (both “deer”) — the meaning is unchanged.
