by Grant E. Rostig
Grant E. Rostig of Fortune Systems in Redwood City, California was among the earliest voices on the internet to write about ECKANKAR, the spiritual path founded by Paul Twitchell in 1965. In September 1984 he posted a prose introduction to ECKANKAR's cosmology (also preserved in this archive). Days later, he posted this companion poem — a practitioner's inner lyric of the ECK path: soul travel beyond the physical, the MAHANTA as living guide, and SUGMAD as the supreme creative principle. The poem was cross-posted to net.poems and net.religion.
Adventure in Freedom
To soar in Spirit
liberate, individual
free from all fear
Soul knows no death
Soul knows no sorrow
Soul knows no question
The MAHANTA shows the way
showering Light and Sound
I bask in the ECK
To live life in IT's presence
To walk with IT's guidance
To rest in IT's love
This is my experience
on the Universal Path
to SUGMAD
May the Blessings be;
Grant Rostig

Companion to Rostig's prose introduction to ECKANKAR, "Soul Travel and SUGMAD," posted the same month. The MAHANTA is the living ECK Master, guide for the inner journey. SUGMAD is the all-pervading creative source. ECK (or Eckankar) denotes the Sound Current that underlies all creation. Light and Sound are the twin aspects of God's creative force in ECK theology.
