Ode XXVIII

As the wings of doves over their nestlings, so also are the wings of the Spirit over my heart.

1.

As the wings of doves over their nestlings, and the mouths of their nestlings toward their mouths,
so also are the wings of the Spirit over my heart.

2.

My heart delights and leaps,
like the child who leaps in the womb of his mother.

3.

I believed, and therefore I was at rest,
because he in whom I believed is faithful.

4.

He has abundantly blessed me,
and my head is toward him.

5.

And the sword shall not divide me from him,
nor the blade.

6.

Because I was prepared before destruction came,
and I was set in his incorruptible wings.

7.

And immortal life embraced me
and kissed me.

8.

And from it is the Spirit that is in me,
and it cannot die because it is life.

9.

Those who saw me marvelled,
because I was persecuted.

10.

And they supposed that I was swallowed up,
because I appeared to them as one of the lost.

11.

But my oppression
became salvation to me.

12.

And I became their contempt,
because there was no envy in me.

13.

Because I was doing good to everyone,
I was hated.

14.

And they surrounded me like mad dogs,
those who in ignorance attack their masters.

15.

Because their mind is corrupt,
and their understanding is perverted.

16.

But I was holding water in my right hand,
and I bore their bitterness with my sweetness.

17.

And I did not perish because I was not their brother,
nor was my birth like theirs.

18.

And they sought my death but did not find it, because I was older than their memory,
and in vain they attacked me.

19.

And those who came after me
sought in vain to destroy the memory of him who was before them.

20.

Because the mind of the Most High cannot be anticipated, and his heart is greater than all wisdom.

ܡܶܬܒܰܣܰܡ ܠܶܒܝ ܘܕܳܐܶܨ܆
ܐܰܝܟ ܥܽܘܼܠܴܐ ܕܕܳܐܷܨ ܒܟܰܪܣܳܐ ܕܐܶܡܶܗ.

ܗܰܝܡܿܢܶܬ ܡܶܛܠ ܗܳܢܳܐ ܐܳܦ ܐܶܬܬܢܻܿܚܶܬ܆

ܘܠܴܐ ܐܶ݀ܒܕܶܬ ܡܶܛܽܠ ܕܠܴܐ ܗ̱ܘܺܝܿܬ ܐܰܚܽܘܬܗܽܘܢܿ܆
