THT 404 — Pīḍānusmṛti

A man desired the city of nirvāṇa for many beings. He remembered the exact teaching and honored the Ten-Powered One, the unfailing refuge worthy of a stūpa.

THT 405

Mahākāśyapa was named, and the news reached even those outside the teaching. The king heard and his hair stood on end. Reverence moved through speech and body; what the ear received, the flesh answered with awe.

THT 406 — Indra and king Bimbisāra

Another learned that study without meditation is like swallowing a tanamoda seed without chewing it. The seed has entered the mouth, but its taste has not been known. So too the teaching is wasted when hearing does not become practice.

THT 407

Rājagṛha, householders, Indra, Bimbisāra, doubt, fear, ocean, wagon, father, mother, and belovedness pass through these scenes. Beings go to the Buddha like water to the sea. Therefore let hearing become practice, and let practice become the road to the deathless city.

THT 408

This Good Works Translation was made from inspected Tocharian transliterations/transcriptions for the witnesses grouped here as Unidentified Story Fragments, indexed by CEToM. The reconstructed English reading is independently derived from the source text and lexical controls exposed in the source records. Existing CEToM translation-control lines, where present, were consulted only for checking the direction of difficult or damaged passages and were not copied as the English body.

The source is damaged and discontinuous. This page is therefore a reconstructed reading from damaged witnesses, not a restored Tocharian base text and not a complete-work claim.
