They are awakened—the fires that walk with Indra, bringing forth the light at the break of dawn.
Let Heaven and Earth, great and wide, mark our deeds.
On this day, we turn unto the gods for aid.
We seek the help of Heaven and of Earth, the mothering Rivers, and the Reed-clad Hills.
We call upon the Sun and Dawn to grant us blamelessness; and Soma, fresh-pressed, to prosper us this day.
Let Heaven and Earth, the two great mothers, shield us— us who are without guilt—that we may fare well.
Let fair Dawn in her coming drive out all ill.
And Agni, kindled anew, we ask for peace.
This first of red ones, this lovely goddess— let her, the Lady of Wealth, arise in fullness for our gain.
The wrath of the wicked, far off may it dwell.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
They who stretch forth the rays of the Sun, who brighten the world at dawn's first breath— may they bestow wide good for our renown.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Let the dawns draw nigh, free of all sorrow; let the flames rise tall with their radiant crowns.
Let the Aśvins yoke their eager steeds.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Bring us today the choicest share, O Savitar, for thou art the giver of treasure.
I call upon her, the wealth-bringer,
I call on the holy ground where offerings fall.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Let this true word carry us onward—
a word born of Manu’s sons, given unto the gods:
"Through all the ruddy dawns, the Sun as watchman riseth."
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Now, as the sacred grass is spread, as the stones are yoked for pressing,
we pray for hearts without hatred, for dreams made real.
Beneath the sheltering Ādityas we stand awakened.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Here lies our grass for the gathered feast.
With reverence I call the gods who dwell on high.
I shall seat the seven priests upon the holy mat— and call on Indra, Mitra, Varuṇa, and Bhaga, for our blessing.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Ādityas, come!—make us whole.
Strengthen our rite, ye who delight together.
We call on Br̥haspati, Pūṣan, the Aśvins, and Bhaga.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
O ye gods, ye shining Ādityas, give us a shelter fit to be praised—
a shield for our folk, for our beasts, for our kin.
We ask of Agni, kindled, our health and our wholeness.
Let all the Maruts aid us this day.
Let every fire we’ve lit rise to help us.
Let every god draw near with his gift, and every treasure, every prize, be ours.
Whom ye uphold in strife, ye gods, whom ye guard and bear across narrow paths— he is without fear beneath your wings.
Make us that one, that we may follow the strong-hearted gods.
