The boundless Way floods
To the East and the West
All things count on it, to arise without expression;
Their birth is wrought, no name yet exists
It is a cloak which nurtures all things without owning them, its nature desireless
So may we name them, however young
All things return to it, without coercion;
So may we name them, elder
Then they are extinguished, and are no longer elders
Yet that is what lets them realise their boundlessness

其可左右
萬物恃之而生而不辭
功成不名有
衣養萬物而不為主
常無欲
可名於小
萬物歸焉而不為主
可名為大
以其終不自為大
故能成其大
