It follows the bird-yaksha Vayuphak seizing Rama and Lakshmana, the monkey host rescuing them and killing Vayuphak, Rama entering Unarat's garden, Nontakan reporting the intrusion, Unarat fighting Rama and the monkey captains, Khosapha Rishi revealing that Unarat can only be bound by a reed-arrow, Rama fixing Unarat in a cave under a long curse, the gods celebrating, Rama returning to Ayutthaya after the year of forest wandering, the royal family greeting him, and Rama again grieving for Sita at night.

Vayuphak, Unarat, and Rama's Return to Ayutthaya

Now the story speaks of Phraya Vayuphak the yaksha. His face was an asura's face, but his body was like an eagle. His two arms had sheltering wings; his two feet were like Garuda's talons. His tail shone like a peacock's eye, and his feathers were bright with patterned splendor. His mother was a bird and his father a battle-brave asura. He ruled the city of Wichian on the slopes of the Cakkrawan mountains. One part of his army was bird-folk, another asura warriors. Vayuphak, demon lord, was great in victorious power, but he did not live by the ten royal virtues; he was rough, deluded, brave in cruelty, and oppressed rishis and gods, so all the earth feared him.

He thought that he wanted to go roaming through the beautiful Himavanta mountain range, looking at trees and flowers for pleasure. Having decided, he adorned himself, took his mighty club, gathered his armies and retinue, and flew through the clouds.

The sound of wings thundered and shook all ten directions. Darkness covered the sun as they flew over the great ocean.

In a moment he glided down to a mountain whose high shoulders touched the clouds. Looking over the mountain slope, the demon lord saw the two human kings seated with the splendid monkey host. He rejoiced because his desire had found its mark. "Good. I will seize them in my claws and carry them away to eat." Thinking this, the asura displayed his power and swooped down.

He brushed over the two human lords, caught them in his claws, and rose swiftly into the clouds, carrying them away by demon strength.

Then the monkey kings and brave troops saw the bird-demon seize Lakshmana and the avatar and fly through the sky. Each stamped in anger until the mountains shook, brandished weapons like fire, and flew after him at once.

When they caught him, they rushed into battle, surrounding and fighting the bird-demon. Some seized wings, some tore at the tail, some struck and blocked, leaping and chasing back and forth.

Sukhrip grabbed the left foot, and the son of the Wind grabbed the right. They rescued Phra Lak and Phra Chakri and together carried them on their shoulders.

Then fierce and strong Vayuphak fought alone in the confusion, meeting and guarding swiftly. He spread left and right wings, swooping and attacking, chasing and retreating. Brave ones battled for victory, and the sound shook the whole earth.

Then all the monkey kings charged and rushed into the fight, mixing in close combat. Each leapt, seized, turned, and showed courage; each stabbed and cut the demon lord, rushing in to kick him with their feet.

Then mighty and brave Vayuphak roared and ordered his troops to attack and kill the monkeys.

Then the battle-brave soldiers on his side each displayed power and rushed into the fight.

The bird-folk swooped, turned, and clawed the splendid monkeys, spreading wings left and right to fight in the upper sky. The asura soldiers brandished weapons in confusion, shooting, thrusting, cutting, and stabbing, none caring for death.

Then all the monkey kings swung weapons like shining fire. Every lord seized asuras, striking, cutting, and stabbing by fierce strength, until heads fell everywhere and all the enemy troops were destroyed.

Then mighty Vayuphak saw his army fall dead and ruined. The asura gnashed his teeth in fury, roared like thunder, swung his powerful club like the fire of the age, and charged the monkeys.

Then Angkhot, battle-brave Nilaphat, and the eighteen mighty crowned monkey lords surrounded and fought the asura. Some seized wings and feet, some took the yaksha's mace, and some stabbed, cut, and beat him, fighting close.

Then fierce and strong Vayuphak could no longer fight alone against the monkey host. He parried wildly with both wings, suffering pain beyond endurance, then flew away and hid in the clouds.

Then the brave monkey kings saw Vayuphak flee rather than meet their power. He had hidden in a great cloud in the open sky, so each displayed force and leapt after the asura. Dividing and circling in search, they saw the yaksha's body. Nilaphat and the son of Pali swung their tridents and rushed in.

The two lords fought close, turning, stabbing, and cutting. The demon lord's head fell to the earth, and his life ended.

When this was done, the son of the Sun and Phraya Anuchit, brave soldier, brought the two kings down to the mountain by power.

Then Narai of the solar line, when he reached the mountain slope, was greatly delighted, his face shining like the moon moving through the sky. He said to Lakshmana, his beloved younger brother of one heart: "These soldiers of ours have incomparable power, famous through all three worlds; wherever they are sent, they succeed as thought desires. This time, counting from when we left the city to wander in the forest, nine months have passed, and the evil in my age is much reduced. Phiphek's prophecy is true in every point. Because these soldiers came and helped in the fight, my heart was not troubled. This place is fouled with corpses, and the smell cannot be endured. We must travel on and find a lasting shelter." Having spoken, he walked out from the splendid jeweled cave, proud as a lion, and the monkey soldiers followed.

They walked between mountains, turning through the forest rows, admiring the many four-footed beasts grazing along the woodland edge. Narasingha and lions played; rabbits leapt on the mountain slopes; yellow tigers crouched watching deer; yaks wandered through thickets; bears grumbled through the woods; tigers roared; wild cattle moved in pairs; serows sprang away; lions glanced and walked gracefully; buffaloes pawed and fought the earth; mongooses curled and played. Elephants led cow-elephants along the forest edge, some trotting and chasing, calves pressed at their sides. "Alas, it is like lovely Sita raising her two beloved sons." Admiring and grieving, with tears crowding his eyes, the king walked on.

After three nights on the road, they reached the foot of a large mountain. The smooth clean ground pleased the heart, filled with many kinds of trees, flowers, raw and ripe fruit, so delightful it seemed a heavenly garden. Not knowing it was a yaksha's garden, they entered happily.

They saw a square lotus pool, full of clear water like a jewel. Steps and platforms lay within the water, a place of great pleasure. Around the pool stood flowering trees. He took his noble younger brother and the army down to play in the great water.

They washed dust and stain from their bodies in the cool clear stream. Lotus buds rose above leaves, and others opened in graceful bloom. The wind carried fragrant pollen. Thinking again of the lovely woman, the king was deeply saddened. Lakshmana plucked lotus leaves and flowers and offered them to his elder brother: blue lotuses, red lotuses, santawa blossoms, and flowers blooming together. The monkey kings leapt, swam, and played happily; some uprooted and tossed flowers, some splashed water and dove, some pulled and broke lotus stems and struck one another in noisy play. Each rejoiced in the pool and flower garden.

When the lord avatar had finished bathing, he called his splendid younger brother and came up from the water, together with the assembled monkey kings. They gathered beneath a great rang tree; the wind blew cool, and the lord of earth was refreshed.

Then the yaksha lord Nontakan, whom Thao Unarat the asura had set to guard the pleasure garden with five thousand soldiers and every weapon, saw the two humans enter with monkeys, boldly playing in the lotus pool and then uprooting and destroying plants. "If this reaches the feet of the yaksha king, he will be enraged, and I may die. I will seize these two humans and present them to the lord of sovereignty; as for all the monkeys, we will cut them down and eat them for sport." Thinking this, he roared, called his brave troops, and leapt with them to surround the place on every side.

He shouted angrily: "Hey, humans, where have you come from, that you arrogantly enter and play here? Do you not know this grove belongs to Thao Unarat the yaksha, ruler of great Singkhon city, whose power surpasses the world? Your allotted fate has arrived, and your lives will end. All these monkeys too will become the yakshas' food."

Then Phra Harirak, jeweled discus-lord, heard the fierce demon lord and answered: "My name is radiant Phra Rama. I incarnated to subdue asuras and rule Ayutthaya. I came to walk the forest and did not know this was a yaksha garden, so we bathed and drank in the river. You are exceedingly rough and vile. Your people are like moths flying into a great fire, fit only to lose their lives by the power of the monkeys."

Then battle-brave Nontakan burned with rage like fire and drove his troops into attack. All the yaksha soldiers gnashed their teeth and shouted, leaping into battle and seizing the monkeys in confusion.

Then Angkhot, brave Nilaphat, mighty Matchanu, Asuraphat, and all the troops who had followed drew and brandished their weapons, displaying power until the earth shook. They spread out into the fight, charging and chasing.

They grappled in close battle; some tore yaksha arms and legs. Heads and feet fell in ruin, and the enemy fled, dying in heaps.

Then deluded Nontakan the asura felt fear as if his life would end. Trembling, he ran away into the victorious city.

When he arrived, he went straight in to attend, bowed with joined hands, and reported: "Two bold humans have come into the flower garden with many mighty monkey kings. They entered the lotus pool, uprooting and destroying trees. Your servant and the guard surrounded them, but they fought back and killed the asura troops. Please show mercy."

Then Thao Unarat the yaksha heard and burned with anger like fire. The asura roared fiercely: "What are these two humans and monkeys, that they dare act arrogantly and not fear death? Great asuras, rakshasas, and ascetics fear my brave power; even the sound of my name through Cakkrawan makes hair stand up. These beings have reached destruction and do not know Death comes to kill. I will destroy them in a blink by my terrible power." He gave royal command: "Hey, great demon ministers, quickly prepare the army. I will go seize the humans and monkeys."

Then Nonthayak, battle-brave minister, received the command, bowed his head, and hurried out from the throne hall.

He levied demon soldiers skilled in war, choosing fierce and hardened fighters. One group had tiger faces and asura bodies. One had tiger bodies and yaksha faces. One had horse faces with demon bodies. One had horse bodies and fierce asura faces. One had lion faces and powerful demon bodies. One had yaksha faces and huge lion bodies. All held and swung weapons, prepared by royal command.

Then Thao Unarat, when the army was ready, came into the bathing place.

Jeweled sprinklers rained down like showers, and he rubbed on sweet perfume. He put on splendid trousers, a cloth patterned with Garuda-scrolls, swan-vine side-panels, a gold-sprouting green garment, armor for victorious battle, a gem-studded chest-strap, directional pendants, breast ornaments, chains, jeweled girdles, gold armlets set with gems, diamond rings, and a great crown of the nine jewels with crystal ornaments at left and right. Taking his bow and girding on his mace, he went to mount the splendid chariot.

The royal war chariot was deep and bright with pearls, its wheels all coral, its three curved yokes shining. The pillars, carved panels, and throne were adorned with alternating gems; gables, finials, and cresting mixed nine-gold and red gold. Bold elephant-lions drew it, shouting loudly, while the charioteer brandished a mace and drove through the middle of the army. Parasols flashed in the sky; pipes, gongs, and drums made uproar; the shouting shook the earth as the troops hurried to the garden.

Then wise Phra Chakri heard the demon army shouting and roaring as it came. He said to Lakshmana and the royal monkeys on left and right: "Now that wicked asura has told his lord, and the lord has come to fight."

Then Nilaphat, Asuraphat the great soldier, and mighty Matchanu bowed and answered the royal word: "Let us volunteer to fight and destroy the yaksha army, so nothing troubles the dust beneath your feet. May the king show mercy." Having spoken, the three bowed at the feet of the supreme lord, took leave, and hurried out to the forest edge.

Seeing the asura forces spread beyond counting over the earth, they displayed their power and attacked the yaksha army.

They struck, cut, and stabbed with fierce strength. The demon troops did not dare withstand them and drew back in disorder.

Then Nonthachak, commander of the vanguard, saw the three monkeys beating the army into ruin. In anger, he stamped and roared until all trembled, drove the great troops, and went out to meet the monkeys. They stabbed, cut, hurled, and struck; some shot arrows. The earth roared as they fought without thought for life.

Then the three brave lords saw the yakshas pressing in and charged into the middle of the army. They broke necks and arms, seized and flung bodies, and threw weapons through the confusion. The demon troops could not endure and retreated all the way to the yaksha chariot.

Nilaphat stood and proclaimed: "Hey, deluded Unarat, do you not know, unrighteous one, that the Garuda-bearing lord of mighty power was invited by the gods from the great Ocean of Milk, born in the solar line among humans and ruler of royal Ayutthaya? His name is Phra Rama Rames, whose glory shakes sky and earth, a jeweled parasol over the three worlds. He has gone to destroy wicked beings. In Lanka and Maliwan, many died by his arrows. Learning that in the east there were unrighteous asuras, he left his riches and suffered through the forest. He has destroyed Kuwer, Tripakkan, and Vayuphak, and he released Kumpanthurat, cursed by Shiva, back into divine freedom. Do not arrogantly fight the Garuda-riding lord. Hurry and bow at his feet, and perhaps your life will remain."

Then Thao Unarat heard the monkey's speech and burned like the fire of destruction. Stamping and roaring, he cried: "Hey, beast. You lie vilely. When did Narai incarnate? I have power without equal in all three realms. Why should humans as small as cobwebs, like chicks in a crow's beak, be heavy with force? If Kuwer, Tripakkan, and Vayuphak died, they had no real power. Do not put yourself forward and speak well. In a moment all three of you will roll dead here." Speaking, the asura set an arrow to the string and released it.

It sounded like a thunderbolt and became countless nagas, spitting poison like flames and spreading their hoods as they chased the monkeys.

Then the three battle-brave soldiers attacked the nagas by power, smashing and cutting them to pieces with both hands.

When that was done, they displayed their power with a roar in every place and leapt at once onto the demon lord's chariot. Nilaphat kicked Thao Unarat. Asuraphat killed the charioteer. Matchanu broke the asura's chariot and killed the elephant-lions.

Then Thao Unarat the yaksha fell to the earth, sprang up, and stood firm. Furious, he stamped until earth and sky shook, swung his powerful bow like the fire of the age, and drove the yaksha army into battle.

Then the three victorious soldiers met and guarded against the asura, making as if they were retreating.

Sukhrip, Angkhot, the son of the Wind, and the eighteen brave crowned monkeys saw the asura forces pressing forward until they reached the mighty lord's front. Each trembled with anger, brandished weapons like the fire of the age, gnashed their teeth, and rushed in. They cut, stabbed, slapped, bit, beat, and struck with bold force, leaving bodies heaped over the ground in broken confusion.

Then Thao Unarat saw the monkeys killing his soldiers. The asura burned with poisonous fire, stamped, gnashed his teeth, swung his bow, and charged among the monkeys by power, meaning to destroy their lives.

Then Narai of the solar line saw the yaksha chasing the monkeys and coming to fight, bow swinging in his hand.

He set his right foot on the yaksha's left knee, beautiful as thousand-eyed Indra, seized the demon's splendid bow, and struck the demon lord.

Then brave Thao Unarat met and guarded in battle, charging into the fight.

[2 words]

He placed his left foot on Rama's right knee and reached to seize the fine bow. They turned and grappled, each striking and parrying in confusion.

Then the jeweled discus-lord pressed boldly into the fight, standing firm and grappling the demon lord.

Planting his left foot on the yaksha's right knee and raising the bow to kill, he struck the vile asura, who fell staggering away at once.

Then Thao Unarat sprang up from the earth and shot an arrow.

[2 words]

It sounded like the asura Ramasun hurling his axe, shaking all directions, and became blazing iron masses falling thick over the ground.

Then the avatar, brave in war, saw the yaksha's weapons become fire. He drew the powerful Brahmastra, set it to the string, aimed to destroy the demon, stood firm, drew with all his strength, and released.

It thundered through the sky and became a great rain, falling to extinguish the flames, then struck the demon in the chest.

Then fierce and strong Unarat, struck by the arrow and near death, gnashed his teeth and recited a powerful spell.

After seven recitations, he rubbed it over his whole body. The arrow fixed in him came out at once, and all pain vanished, though his face was still weary. He thought: "This human is greatly powerful. I too have sacred might, and the three worlds cannot withstand me, yet in battle I was nearly killed. How can I kill him when he does not die? I must rest my strength first, then return to fight and kill." Thinking this, the asura went straight to the water pool.

Now the story speaks of Phra Khosapha Rishi, who was seated in a forest pavilion, gathered in meditation. Knowing that the avatar had struck Unarat but not killed him, the holy ascetic came out from his austerities and quickly flew away.

He floated through the shining sky until he reached the great mountain peak, then descended straight to the battlefield and approached Phra Chakri.

He sat down and said: "The old cause of Unarat the yaksha is this: he was a god, servant at the feet of Shiva, who had mercy on him. Later he became lazy and did not attend the lord, so Shiva punished him, cursing him to become an asura and rule great Singkhon city. No powerful weapon can take his life. When radiant Narai came from Vaikuntha to destroy the wicked under the name Phra Rama Chakri, ruler of Ayutthaya, and walked the difficult forest, he would destroy Unarat. You must specifically pull up a reed and shoot it to pierce the yaksha's chest, fixing him to a stone slab, where he will suffer for a hundred koti years. Shiva commanded me to remain and make this known to your glorious majesty." Speaking, he pointed out the reed at once, then returned to his teacher's hut.

Then wise Phra Chakri heard the meditating sage reveal the old matter. He rejoiced as if he had gained heavenly treasure, his face clear as the moon, and the righteous lord pulled up the jeweled reed.

Then Thao Unarat the yaksha drank water and washed his face. Coolness spread through the asura's body, and his hunger, panting, and exhaustion eased. Meaning to destroy the two humans and splendid monkeys, he leapt from the pool by power and charged back into battle.

Then Phra Harirak, lord Narai, swung his bow and struck the demon, turning him aside from the fight.

Then he set the jeweled reed to the string, aiming to end the demon's life. Drawing with victorious strength, the sky-ruling lord released it at once.

The sound shook the whole world like a beautiful Brahmastra. It struck Unarat the asura in the chest and, by power, hurled him away.

He fell into the cave beside the pleasure garden, fixed fast against a stone slab, unable to move his body. Phra Chakri then added a curse: "Let a splendid jeweled rooster and Nonthari with a great iron hammer arise to guard this asura for a hundred koti years. If the reed is seen to shift from Unarat's chest, let the rooster crow at once and Nonthari strike it back with the hammer." When the curse was complete, the lord walked on, beautiful as the sun, and returned with his lovely younger brother to the asura's pleasure garden.

Then all the gods in every direction and the beautiful apsaras saw the four-armed Phra Chakri strike Unarat with the reed-arrow, pinning him against the mountain. They rejoiced, leaned from the jeweled windows of every mansion, laughed, clapped their hands, and scattered great divine flowers whose sweet fragrance drifted everywhere. Some sang victory blessings, praising the bow-bearing lord's power: "Now the world, heaven, and earth will be free of suffering and live in happiness."

Then the surviving mighty asuras, hiding at the forest edge, saw Phraya Unarat defeated by the powerful human and hurled away by the arrow. Terrified as if life would end, they fled secretly into the city.

When they arrived, they bowed and reported to Lady Waiyakasun, beloved queen of the king and mother of young Prachan: "Now the lord of the world took the armies to war until the fourfold host was destroyed. The sky-ruling lord was struck by an arrow and carried away." They told everything from beginning to end, leaving nothing aside, and said the two powerful humans were still in the garden.

Then Lady Waiyakasun, most piteous, and her young daughter Prachan learned that the demon king had perished. It was as if someone had cut off their heads with a sharp sword. Both poured tears, grieving and lamenting.

The mother said, "O mighty lord, crown of the mountain realm, powerful as the fire of the age, subduer of heaven and underworld, how could you be defeated by humans and lose your life? From now on the demon city of Singkhon will decline and grieve every day." The daughter said, "O my father, whose kindness had no equal, you loved your child like your own heart and raised me without stain. Even when I wanted to see stars, moon, or sun, you took me through every heavenly rank. I have not repaid even dust of that kindness, and now you vanish from my sight." The palace women said, "O lord and crown, your kindness was like a father's. You nourished and raised your servants with lasting mercy, gave us rank and splendor, and let us live happily. Now there will be only suffering." Lamenting, they beat their breasts and grieved.

Then radiant Phra Harirak, after destroying the asura, was glad in heart. He said to his younger brother and to the kings great and small: "Since I left the victorious city and came to walk the forest, I have subdued cruel and deluded asuras according to Phiphek the demon's prediction. The appointed span is now a full year. It is right that we return to the city and end the grief of the seven radiant kings." Having spoken, he left the asura's garden.

He traveled through Himavanta, admiring the many birds: mynas on crystal branches in pairs; herons in pine; doves calling together on khoi; noris in rows on rak trees; five-colored birds on jambolan by the road; parrots in flocks on ket trees; peacocks on prayong spreading their tails; small birds climbing branches; birds resting and then flying from liap trees; swans in pairs on hiang trees; doves settling on bamboo; jungle fowl on mafai branches; forest-watch birds sleeping on royal cassia; great lor birds on patterned payung; and kla birds flying around khlai. Admiring them, he hurried onward, with his younger brother and the monkeys following.

Then Phra Phrot the younger brother, Phra Satrut, and the two lovely grandsons who had guarded the city and waited for the four-armed lord counted the days and months until the appointed year was complete. "Now the mighty lord will return to the royal city. We must go wait for Phra Chakri outside the city." Having spoken, the four went out like royal lions, and ministers, armies, and all the people followed.

They sat in two dense lines along the great road in the proper direction, waiting for the lord of the three worlds; no one took his eyes away.

Then Narai of the serpent-line, having suffered through the forest, counted fifteen nights on the return road. Crossing gates, rows of fields, and the main way, he reached the royal city when the sun had slanted west.

Then the four solar-line bow-bearing kings fixed their eyes in expectation of the four-armed lord. Seeing the king from afar, they rejoiced beyond comparison and ran out with loyal hearts.

They bowed their heads in homage at his honored feet. The ministers, people, and citizens all raised joined hands together. Musicians sounded gongs, drums, trumpets, and conches in thunderous celebration, while ascetics and brahmins bowed and recited Veda blessings.

Then the avatar, brave in war, saw the four mighty solar-line kings, ministers, troops, and armies. All weariness left him. The bow-bearing lord rejoiced, greeted them, and they went together to the shining palace.

When he arrived, he went straight up to attend and bowed at the honored feet of the three royal mothers with lasting joy.

Then the three beloved mothers saw the four-armed lord and mighty Lakshmana his younger brother returned from the forest. They were as delighted as if they had gained heaven, rose, and embraced them at once, stroking their backs and faces: "Beloved sons of your mothers, since you left the city, we have grieved and longed. Morning and evening we drank only tears, without ceasing from sorrow. Our breasts burned like fire; only the two grandsons eased our hearts. You two have wandered long in the hard forest. What hardships have you endured, jewels of our eyes, that you have grown so thin?"

Then radiant Phra Harirak heard the three mothers. With joined hands he answered: "Your son left the honored city in such grief that blood seemed to flow from the eyes. I suffered hunger and hardship and fought wicked beings. Thao Kuwer and Tripakkan lost their lives. I released Kumpanthurat the asura back into service of Shiva. Then the yaksha Vayuphak swooped down and carried away your two beloved sons in bird-claws, but the monkeys followed and destroyed him. When we reached the garden of the demon Unarat, we fought him in a great war. I shot the jeweled reed and fixed him in place according to Shiva's curse. Because the merit of my three mothers sheltered my head, I survived and returned to report at your feet."

Then the three beautiful mothers heard their beloved son and pitied him beyond measure. Tears filled their eyes, and they could hardly hold back grief. "Alas, father, you were nearly killed, had not your brave soldiers saved you in time. Now the evil fate has ended. Jewel of our eyes, sustain your sovereignty, make the people happy always, be the parasol over the earth, keep your royal power lasting and blessed, and carry the emperor-line forward. Your mothers entrust life and even our bodies after death to you."

Then wise Phra Chakri bowed his head and received the blessing, placing it upon his head with gladness. He called his younger brother and sons, bowed at the feet of the three royal mothers, took leave, and went to the shining palace.

When he arrived, he sat upon the radiant throne and gave splendid royal gifts to the soldiers according to their merits: chains, rings, crowns, and diamonds. Then he instructed them: "Return to rule your cities, keeping every realm secure and happy."

Then all the monkey kings received the great royal rewards and rejoiced many times over. They bowed at radiant Narai's feet, took leave, and each flew by victorious power to his own city.

Then wise Phra Chakri, when evening darkened and the moonlight shone, with stars spread bright across the sky, led his two mighty sons on foot into the shining chamber.

He lay down on the jeweled couch beneath the white jeweled parasol and thought of the queen. The lord of earth sighed. Looking at the faces of the two young princes, tears flowed in streams. "Alas, Sita, medicine of my heart, we once endured hardship together. You loved me and I loved you; we shared one life and never let one another's spirit be troubled. How could things become like this? O, all the care of love has been wasted. I grieve that you, jewel of my eyes, have gone from me. Thought is finished, suffering doubled, grief without measure because you do not long for me. What use is it that I incarnated, subduing wicked beings with arrows so the three worlds could be happy and free of pain, when my beloved has gone away? O heart, how can I bring you back to share the chamber of delight? Phiphek also prophesied that a great one would show mercy, but thinking and thinking, I cannot see who might be the refuge he spoke of." Lamenting, he embraced the two princes, and the sky-ruling lord fell asleep in the night.
