Good Works Translation from Thai

This is the fourteenth สมุดไทย unit of the Rama I Ramakien as published by the Vajirayana Digital Library. It gives Montho's birth of Sida and the casting away of the casket, Phra Chanok's discovery and hidden guardianship of the child, the four princes' childhood and training with the bow, Shiva's gift of divine arrows, the princes' display of those arrows, and Kaiyaket's request for Phra Phrot.

Translation

Montho Gives Birth to Sida

Now the tale will speak of heavenly Nang Montho. Since she had eaten the divine rice at the rite, she had conceived and her womb had prospered. The lord of Lanka, king of the yakshas, placed the beautiful lady, lovely as an apsara, under careful protection and kept her in lasting happiness day after day. When the full ten months were complete, the birth-wind blew strongly. The lovely lady felt pain in the womb as if her senses would end.

Then the young palace women saw the lady suffering in her belly and were frightened and alarmed. Some pressed the belly and supported her back, sitting around her and easing the child within. Some called the physicians in confusion through the inner palace. Others ran to attend the lord of Lanka.

When they reached him, they raised their joined fingers above their heads and reported: "The beloved chief queen is suffering birth-pains, as if her life will end."

Then ten-faced Thotsakan, wise and brave, heard and burned as if with black fire. The lord of demons hurried away.

When he arrived, he gave command to the physicians, court women, and attendants great and small: "Help and ease the lady. Let no stain or harm come to her."

Then fair Nang Montho, lovely lady of the demons, when the auspicious hour arrived, gave birth to her beloved child.

The child was a daughter of excellent and auspicious form, surpassingly beautiful, like a lady of the three worlds. Her complexion was soft and bright, unlike the yaksha line of Lanka. She cried out, "Destroy Ravana," three times before everyone, but her father and mother did not hear the beautiful child's words.

Then the ten-headed yaksha king, seeing the face of his young daughter, felt his love increase a thousandfold. He gave command to the young female attendants: "Go summon Phiphek the asura and the chief astrologers to come up."

Then the attendants on left and right received the command, bowed farewell, and hurried down together.

When they reached the palace of the kumbhanda, the attendants raised joined hands in reverence and reported: "The lord of the three worlds has sent us to invite Your Highness and the astrologers to attend the crown of Lanka, because lovely Montho has given birth to a royal daughter."

Then Phiphek, yaksha of the solar line, learned the royal command and led the astrologers up.

When they arrived, they bowed at the feet of the king together with elder teachers great and small. In the victorious great palace they waited for the lord of earth to command them.

Then Thotsakan the yaksha, when he saw Phiphek come up, spoke in gracious words: "Your niece has been born a girl, beautiful as a heavenly apsara. Read the lady's horoscope and see what lasting fortune will arise."

Then Phiphek, wise in judgment, bowed his head to receive the king's command and took up a stylus and board. He set the Lesser Era, counted the month and the calculations, multiplied, divided, added, and subtracted into the horoscope according to the rules in the treatise. He found exaltation, splendor, royal fortune, auspicious conjunctions, and a supreme sign. The ascendant came in Aries, the nakshatra and minute were excellent. Her complexion and form were perfectly beautiful, fit to be companion of the supreme wheel-bearing lord. Then he compared the horoscope with that of the yaksha king, and the moon-ascendant became unlucky. He checked it against Lanka's horoscope, and Saturn lay over the ascendant in its sign. So he reported: "The royal daughter will cause turmoil in the demon city. To raise her is not possible; she is like a heap of fire that burns and consumes. Lanka will become ash and dust; blood will be like water. If Your Majesty clings to the royal daughter, the line of sun and Brahma will be destroyed. Cast her away so that the taint may pass from you, into the stream of the sea."

Then fair Nang Montho, jewel of the king's heart, heard the younger brother's prediction and felt as if she would die. She said: "This Phiphek is unrighteous, inventing evil against a tiny child. You common one, you mean to destroy her life out of malice. Ah, my beloved child, why is your merit so slight? Now even your royal uncle sees that love for his niece is ended. If my child is unlucky, how can her mother be any good? Kill us together and let us perish. What more do you want of your beloved wife? If we raise her here in Lanka, will she truly ruin your honor?" Speaking, she beat her breast and sobbed until the lovely lady nearly lost consciousness.

Then Thotsakan the yaksha saw Queen Montho weeping in immeasurable grief. He comforted her with gentle words: "Beloved one, this is not fitting. Phiphek loves his niece as his own heart; it would be wrong for him to invent a false reading against her. If you doubt my younger brother, the astrologers are all present here. Let them examine the matter until every suspicion is gone." Having spoken, he commanded the astrologers great and small: "Whatever fate belongs to my child, good or bad, do not fear me. Speak only the truth."

Then the priests and astrologers present received the command and examined the princess's age. They brought out the almanacs, compared and checked everything carefully, and saw that she was ill-fated for the city and for her royal father. Together they answered the royal command: "The royal daughter's horoscope makes her an enemy to the lord of earth, like Rahu rushing to seize the moon. To raise her will bring no good. She will certainly cause harm, and the solar royal line will be destroyed, just as your younger brother has said."

Then the ten-headed yaksha of the solar line learned the astrologers' words. He turned his face and spoke: "Listen, young and beautiful one, heart of my heart and eye of my eye. It is not that I have no love for the royal daughter. But when she was born to destroy our life, how can I be so lost in love as to raise her? Do not grieve and weep so greatly. Break your heart from this, lovely lady." Then he ordered Phiphek the asura: "You, wise and brave one, deal with this ill-fated child of ours according to the ancient rule."

Then Phiphek, yaksha of the solar line, brought a jeweled casket and came in to place the royal daughter inside.

Then beautiful Nang Montho, lady of the demons, saw the casket and grieved. The queen beat her breast and lamented: "Ah, little child of your mother. I endured carrying you in the womb and guarded your life. Sitting or lying down, from the time I cherished the pregnancy, I let no harm come to you. Alas, you were born into this life and cannot escape your karma. Ah, little child, delight of my heart, you will go to be food for the fish. If only I had been able to bathe you and feed you even one mouthful of rice." As she lamented, overcome with grief, the lovely lady fainted.

Then Lord Phiphek the yaksha saw the beautiful chief queen grieve as if her life were ending. He lifted the beloved royal niece, placed her in a golden casket, and handed it to a capable soldier: "Hurry and cast it away into the river."

Then Suksan the yaksha received the casket from the younger prince and flew away by asura power.

When he reached the middle of the sea named Walwanathi, he threw it into the swirling water according to the yaksha king's command. By the merit of the excellent queen, a lotus of gold, large as a wheel, rose and received the casket of the beautiful child. The yaksha lord did not see it and returned.

Then Mani Mekhala and the bands of divine sons who guarded the great ocean saw that the kumbhanda had brought Phra Lakshmi and cast her into the wide water. All were startled and hurried to help the lovely lady.

When they arrived, they sat around her and soothed the dear child with divine music, playing sweet lamenting strains that seized the heart. Some scattered flower garlands over the great sea. Many kinds of fish spread around her like stars surrounding the moon in the water. By the care of the gods and by Phra Lakshmi's merit, the casket reached the Neranjara River, hurrying against the ocean current. Like the wind carrying a golden boat to the mountain of Webun, the golden casket seemed to have a life of its own and stopped at the landing of the holy rishi.

Phra Chanok Finds the Casket

Now the tale will speak of Phra Chanok the rishi. He used to go down to bathe in the river landing every day without fail. When the time arrived, he called a lay attendant named Nai Som, a diligent man, to carry the bathing cloth of the holy man, and together they went down to the river.

When they reached the water landing, the powerful meditating teacher saw a fashioned casket, beautiful as a stainless star, resting in a golden lotus whose light shone on the surface of the stream. He plunged into the water swiftly as Garuda flying in the clouds.

The holy man seized the golden casket, raised it in his hands, and swam back against the current to the great river landing.

When he reached the bank, he opened the golden casket and saw a little girl, a lovely lady of excellent beauty. He rejoiced as if he had gained the gem of an emperor. "This child is not of low birth. She must be a shoot of the solar line of kings. It seems some jeweled city suffered disaster and ruin, so they placed her in a divine golden casket and threw her away, helpless and pitiful. I have no daughter or son. Merit has brought me to find her today. I will raise her as an adopted daughter, to carry on my royal fortune and splendor." Having thought this, the holy sage spoke a truth-vow: "By the fortune of this young lady, if she is to have substance and greatness hereafter, let my pointing finger have power and become a stream of milk."

At once his finger became milk. Rejoicing together, he gave it to the excellent royal lady to suck from his hand as from a breast. Then he had Nai Som carry the golden casket ahead, and he cradled the royal daughter and returned to the forest dwelling.

When he arrived, he had a cradle tied beside the southern wall. He laid the child down to sleep and rocked it, ordering Nai Som to watch the young girl.

Then Nai Som, the rishi's lay attendant, became nurse to the royal daughter and loved her beyond measure. He bathed her and fed her rice; he never let her be neglected. When it was time for her to sleep, he rocked her and stayed close by her in the hall.

Then the ascetic who kept the discipline, after taking the girl as his daughter and raising her every day and night, thought: "I am a king who left royal wealth and ordained as a rishi, hoping to obtain worldly meditation. Now my intention is not fulfilled. If I return to the royal palace, I will regret the work of ascetic practice. If I keep striving in the ascetic form, I am bound by the duty of the royal daughter. No matter. I will take her and bury her, entrusting her to the guardian gods in the forest, so that I may practice meditation and preserve the rites." Having thought this, he called Nai Som, the layman who had raised the beautiful child, had him lift her into the bright casket, and hurried away carrying a hoe.

They came to the forest edge by the field, a clear open place with a great banyan tree. He had the golden casket set down beneath the tree's shade. "Here there are powerful deities, mighty and brave. I will entrust the royal daughter to them, so that they may help guard this young lady." He ordered Nai Som to dig a pit beneath the broad banyan, tamp the earth smooth, lay boards beneath, and make the place even, deep, and wide.

Then diligent Nai Som received the hoe from the holy man, tucked up his cloth, and struck the earth busily.

He made it four cubits square and smooth, leveling the ground so there were no hollows or mounds. Sweat dripped; he opened his mouth to breathe. The work was finished according to the set measure.

Then the great ascetic of powerful vows, when the pit was complete as he desired, made a truth-vow: "If this lady is to share the white parasol with the excellent emperor, sustaining the world and its people so that the earth may have lasting happiness, let a divine golden lotus, bright and fragrant with pollen, rise from the ground and receive the casket of the lovely child through her merit."

By the sage's truth and by the beloved Phra Lakshmi's merit, a beautiful golden lotus arose in the middle of the pit as he wished. Its pollen opened and spread fragrance. The ascetic placed the casket inside and ordered the disciple of his heart: "Cover and smooth the earth well."

Then Nai Som, the rishi's lay attendant, took the hoe and covered the earth until it was smooth, just as the holy master commanded.

Then the ascetic of powerful vows, after burying the royal daughter, returned with Nai Som to the forest dwelling.

Then the bands of deities great and small who lived in the banyan tree, the forest gods and lords of the woods, heard the great teacher's vow as he buried Phra Lakshmi. They felt compassion and called one another in a great tumult. The gods and apsaras came out from their jeweled mansions and went to the place where the young lady was buried.

When they arrived, they sat around and nursed her gently. They sang sweet lullabies, guarded her, and kept every evil and danger away.

The Princes Play and Train

Then King Thotsarot loved his four royal sons as dearly as his own life and heart. He rejoiced in them happily at all times, and no illness came to them. When the princes grew to twelve years of age, he thought to have them learn the science of the bow, so that they could defeat evil enemies and give lasting happiness to the earth. He gave each prince a pellet bow and said: "My sons, practice shooting in play as if with arrows. Become accurate and skilled in hand, and your father will have you study the victorious art."

Then the brothers, all of good disposition, received the pellet bows with joy, bowed, and went out from the royal hall.

The four went before the palace court and happily played with pellet bows. Some shot wagers over sweets; whoever lost was teased every time.

Then a servant of Nang Kaiyakesi, a hunchback named Nang Kuchi, whose duty was to gather flowers, came at the proper time. She dressed herself, combed her hair, put on powder, added airs and graceful gestures, and walked off toward the flower garden.

When she reached the palace court, she saw the four princes playing wager after wager with their pellet bows while people crowded noisily around. The sight delighted her, so she did not go on to the flower garden. She stopped to watch in pleasure, sitting and smiling broadly.

Then Phra Ram of the solar line, playing in the field of the palace court, looked aside and saw the hunchback woman wearing Tani cloth and a ruby-red upper cloth with a cockscomb hue. She floated along with arms set and a gentle smile. He spoke to his three younger brothers: "I will shoot the hunchback's shrimp-like bend so that it jerks forward. Dear brothers, watch." Having spoken, he shot at once.

By Phra Narai's power the shot struck exactly where he intended, without missing. Her bent back jerked forward toward her belly, and the discus-bearing lord shot again.

The hump returned to its place, and the hunchback woman did not know what had happened. He was accurate, swift, and quick, shooting everything as he wished. The royal brothers rejoiced, clapped their hands, and laughed merrily. Pages and children all jeered and laughed in a clamor.

Then Nang Kuchi the servant felt shame beyond description. She dried her tears and grieved.

"Even if I am only a hunchback from birth, I am an old servant of Nang Kaiyakesi. Phra Ram has done this to me. If I live and do not die, we shall see." The more she thought, the more tight anger filled her heart. Tears streamed down and her body trembled. She rose from the palace field and staggered away.

Then the four royal sons practiced with pellet bows as usual, aiming by eye and hand until they were skilled. They mastered every discipline, rode and drove elephants and horses with courage, and grew in years until they were fourteen. They performed royal tasks as the eyes and ears of their radiant father. When the time came, the four went up together to attend the king.

Then King Thotsarot saw his four royal sons and loved them like his own life. He spoke sweet words: "Beloved children of your father, joy of my heart, you will continue the solar line and uphold the world. Go live with your teachers and study the art of the bow, the three Vedas, magic lore, and power, according to the custom of royal sons."

Then the four royal sons heard their father's command, bowed at his feet, and answered: "Your Majesty has shown boundless kindness. With love and full intent we wish to become strong in power." Having spoken, they bowed farewell to their royal father and their four mothers, left Ayutthaya city, and went into the forest.

[Viewing the Forest]

They walked on and viewed the trees, growing thickly in many ranks: sok, banyan, pine, teak, chingchan, mukman, pradu, hukwang, krasang, rang, rak, teng, taeo, klet-kaeo, kantrao, takhian, khae, khoi, khanang, khwit, khwat, pring, prang, prayong, krathin, inchan, champa, lamduan, kradangnga, mahahong, saraphi, nom-sawan, khanthrong, kalong, lente, pheka, phikun, bunnak, tumtat, hiang, hat, phlap, phluang, wai, wa, nom-yuang, nang-yaem, yothaka, phawa, phayom, fueang-fai, chong-nang, chang-nao, sao-yut, chatbut, khachon, and cockscomb. The four princes viewed them with delight until they reached the hermitage of the holy ascetics.

Then the two great ascetics glanced and saw the sons of King Thotsarot. They spoke and asked: "Why have the four of you come alone? There is no fourfold army with you. Has some danger or harm occurred? Your grandfathers are greatly puzzled."

Then the four princes heard the great sages, raised joined hands, and explained the matter: "Now our royal father, in his kindness, has sent us brothers out to live beneath the feet of our teachers. We are to study the arts, the three Vedas, and holy knowledge until we are brave and skilled, as is proper for chief royal princes. Wise lords, please show us favor."

Then the rishis Phra Wasis and Phra Sawamit heard and rejoiced. They answered: "Since you have come to live with your grandfathers, we will teach you every kind of knowledge. Set your diligence firmly, and you will succeed as you wish."

Then Phra Ram, supreme discus-bearing Krishna, and the three younger brothers dear as his own life stayed with the holy ascetics in the hut. Morning and evening they diligently massaged the rishis, pressing their hands and feet, spreading mats, and sweeping away dust. All four served them regularly.

Then the two ascetics of strong vows taught the three Vedas every day to their four grandsons. They carved bamboo into bows and gave one to the four-handed royal lord and one each to his three younger brothers, with three arrows tied to each. "Four grandsons, practice shooting so that you become accurate and skilled." Then they instructed them in the victorious art according to the power of magic lore.

Then the four shining kings of the solar line received the bows from the sages' hands, raised joined hands in reverence, and went out together.

They came to the end of the walking path, a level shaded place beneath a great rang tree. They set up clusters of prayong flowers in a row, as far as thirty wa away. Each prince raised bow and arrow, intending to shoot the flowers. They drew and released as they wished, and the sound echoed through the sky and forest.

The arrows struck the prayong flowers and shattered them where they stood. Each prince shot and hit every time, and they clapped their hands, laughed, and rejoiced.

Then the two great teachers saw that the sons of King Thotsarot had learned the art of the bow with skill, had completed the three Vedas and mantras, and were brave and wise in battle power. "Now the asuras and demons will lose their lives by the hand of the discus-bearing lord. The three worlds will be cooled by his power, like a jeweled parasol shading their heads. But to subdue the violent, their bow-power is not yet enough. We must make the fire-pit rite according to the bright Vishnu-Veda, so that arrows arise in the midst of the fire and their power will become glorious." Having thought this, the two teachers prepared to consecrate arrows, fixed an auspicious victorious hour, and each left the hut.

When they reached the open ritual place, the seat prepared for the rishis, they established the fire rite, collected their senses, and meditated.

By the force of their mastered Veda, the earth swelled in every direction. It thundered in a vast tumult, and the fierce flame shone like age-ending fire.

Then Phra Isuan, creator lord, was seated on a shining throne in the golden three-faced palace, surrounded by heavenly women and apsaras dancing and singing. Yet he was not at ease; heat arose in his heart. He looked down with divine sight and saw the two great teachers at the fire-pit rite, preparing to consecrate bow-power for Phra Narai.

"It is fitting that I bestow siddhi arrows and make all these weapons complete." Having thought this, he entered a secluded place, recited the Veda, and composed his mind.

At once twelve powerful arrows arose, made especially for them, together with mighty siddhi arrows. He threw them into the mass of fire.

Then the two great rishis saw victorious crowned arrows arise in the middle of the fire-pit, together with twelve arrows of shining power. Their hearts filled with joy. They picked them up and examined them, seeing inscribed letters as signs. The names of the three royal younger brothers and of the lord who bears Garuda were written there. These arrows had different powers, suited to subdue unrighteous evildoers. They gave them to the four princes and said: "The arrows of the wise lord have been inscribed and bestowed from above. Their power surpasses the earth."

Then the four divine solar-line princes received the arrows from the sages' hands and rejoiced as if they had gained the sixteenth heaven. They bowed down and said: "The kindness of the great ascetics is greater than Mount Meru; it is beyond the heart's measuring. Even if all three worlds were brought together for comparison, they would not equal its weight. We ask to repay Your Reverences' kindness until the day life ends."

Then the two ascetics of strong vows heard the royal grandsons and rejoiced a thousandfold. Each gave blessing: "May all four of you become mighty in power. May no enemy kings be able to stand against you. You have studied the three Vedas and fulfilled your wish in the art of the bow. Your royal mothers and father will be waiting every day and night. Now your grandfathers will take you back to your royal father." Having spoken, the two holy men left the hut together.

The Princes Display the Divine Arrows

When they reached the royal palace, the four young princes invited the great yogins up into the jeweled palace adorned in splendor.

Then the lord of Ayutthaya saw the two great teachers and the four princes and rejoiced. He invited the holy men up onto shining golden seats, worshiped them with flowers, and then asked: "How have the four royal grandsons studied? Have they completed the learning and the victorious art of the bow, holy lords?"

Then the two great ascetics heard King Thotsarot and answered: "The four royal princes learned every branch of knowledge with quickness, fluency, and speed; no one in the whole world can equal them. We formed the fire-pit rite, and its heat reached Lord Phra Suli. He bestowed arrows down, each with different power."

Then King Thotsarot heard the two great holy men and felt as if he had gained a garland from the Dusita heaven. He embraced his four beloved sons, the eyes of their father, and said: "Try the power of the siddhi arrows in the midst of the army, according to the custom of the brave solar royal line. Your fame will be spread and seen by the troops."

Then the four lords bearing bows bowed their heads to receive their father's command and went out on foot together.

Then Phra Ram, solar-line lord, set an arrow and released it by power, shaking all the great mountains.

Before the flash of lightning had ended, he had shot all three arrows. The Brahmastra went to the sixteenth heaven, swift as the gods' discus. The Agniwat arrow became a blazing sun. The Phlaiwat arrow went to Mount Chakraval, descended to the underworld, and returned.

Then Phra Phrot, the younger prince, bowed to his royal father, set arrows on the string, drew, and released them.

One went to the five rivers. One went to the four great continents. One went to Himalaya. The victorious arrows returned together.

Then Phra Lak, bright as the sky and formed among men, bent the bow in his hand and released with a crash that shook the earth.

One arrow went to Agni-rudra. One became a hundred thousand volleys of weapons. One went to the asura world and returned to the south of the city.

Then Phra Satrut, brave in battle, drew the bowstring, moved his hand, displayed his power, and released the arrows.

One became a blowing storm. One became a great rain. One became a flame of fire. Then the victorious arrows transformed back into garlands.

Then gods of every rank, gandharvas, Garudas, Vasuki, and all royal lords throughout the three worlds heard the thunderous sound, and earth and sky trembled in fear. It covered even the light of dawn and startled every district of the earth. But the gods knew the cause: the divine-line princes were trying their bow-arts. They rejoiced up to Brahma, saying, "Now the asuras will lose their lives." Some scattered divine flower garlands and sweet fragrance everywhere. From the windows of every heavenly mansion they cried out "Sadhu."

Then King Thotsarot, the three chief queens, royal kin, palace women, ministers by the hundred thousand, citizens, warriors, and troops saw the four beautiful princes try their bow-arts until the whole earth thundered. Everyone rejoiced and loudly blessed them: "May they continue the solar line and rule the earth, and may they become refuge for the world."

Then the two ascetics of strong vows saw the four royal grandsons try the weapon-arts as desired. They felt delight and joy, as if Indra had placed a jewel in their hands. Smiling, they blessed them: "May your power shine like age-ending fire." Then they spoke sweet farewell words to King Thotsarot, descended from the golden palace, and went straight back to their forest huts.

Kaiyaket Asks for Phra Phrot

Now the tale will speak of radiant Thao Kaiyaket. He heard that his royal daughter who lived in Ayutthaya had a royal son, skilled and brave in the art of the bow. He thought with longing: "I myself am very old. I will ask for my grandson to keep beside me and help guard the kingdom. If any enemy yakshas arise, my beloved grandson will defeat them."

Having thought this, he ordered a wise minister to prepare a letter asking that the royal prince, his grandson, come to stay in his city.

When they reached Ayutthaya, a royal city vast as the heaven of Tavatimsa, they went to Minister Sumanthan and told him the matter of the letter.

Then Sumanthan, the minister of rank, learned the ministers' words and led them to the shining royal hall.

When they arrived, he bowed his head and reported to the radiant lord, crown of the world: "King Kaiyaket has sent a royal letter." As he reported, he opened the jeweled box, lifted it above his head, and presented the golden letter to the righteous king.

The royal letter from King Kaiyaket, lord of the great and splendid city, who shares the same nine-gem earth with the territory of Ayutthaya, sent lasting and auspicious words to the glorious emperor, crown of the world in victorious Dvaravati. "Because Kaiyaket city has no royal son or grandson, I ask for Phra Phrot to come and continue the solar royal line. The ministers, people, and lands of the realm will rely on the power of my beloved grandson, like a jeweled parasol screening the sun, as the great support of the city."

Then King Thotsarot, brave in war, heard the auspicious and lasting letter. The lord of earth rejoiced and said: "The radiant royal grandfather asks for his grandson to stay in his city. We will give him as desired." Having spoken, he left the throne, moving beautifully as if drawn like a god, and went into the bright great palace.

He lowered himself onto the jeweled throne, surrounded by royal descendants of the solar line, while the palace women and attendants bowed around him in ranks. He told Nang Kaiyakesi, his beloved elder lady: "The father of Your Ladyship, lord of the earth, has sent a letter asking for your young royal son to be kept as the eyes at his left and right. If we do not give him, the lord of the sky-passing earth will be troubled in spirit."

Then fair Nang Kaiyakesi heard her husband's command, raised joined hands, and answered: "My honored father has no royal sons or grandsons. As for giving my beloved child, dear as my heart, to live with his royal grandfather, this rests entirely with Your Majesty's mercy. I, your servant beneath your feet, will not oppose the king's command."

Then radiant King Thotsarot heard the chief queen, and it was like divine water entering his heart. He commanded Phra Phrot, the beloved son of his heart: "Now your grandfather asks for you to go and continue the solar royal line. It is fitting that you serve beneath the feet of your royal grandfather and become the eyes and heart of the righteous king in the territory of Kaiyaket city."

Then Phra Phrot, solar-line prince bearing the bow, heard his royal father. Raising joined hands, he answered: "If Your Majesty graciously commands me to go, your son does not wish to be far from the splendor of your feet. To part from my three royal mothers, from Phra Chakri my elder brother, and from Phra Lak and Phra Satrut, my beloved younger brothers, is beyond my strength. Royal father, please show mercy. I have no wisdom for such parting."
