II.32

✦ ─── ⟐ ─── ✦

Hear us, O Indra, mightiest of all. Hear us, O Varuṇa, lord of the waters and of oath. Hear us, O Agni, gleaming-mouthed, thou carrier of prayer to the gods. Let this sacrifice rise upon the smoke and reach the throne of heaven.

We invoke thee, O Mitra and Varuṇa, ye keepers of the covenant, ye warders of the sky. Bind us together in friendship. Let not quarrel mar our bonds. Grant us the knowledge of right action and the strength to follow it.

O Pūṣan, golden-haired guide of paths, lead us aright through the darkness. O Savitṛ, impeller of all things, stir us to action and to glory. O divine Twins, ye Aśvins, who healest the wounded and drinketh sweet libations at dawn — we call upon thee.

O Soma, precious plant, giver of strength and vision — we have pressed thy juices. Drink of the milk we offer. Grant us thy blessings: clarity of mind, courage in battle, fertility in our fields and in our chambers. Let thy ecstasy flow through us as the river flows to the sea.

O Maruts, storm-riders, tempest-singers, children of Rudra — come forth with thy howling winds! Sweep away the drought. Bring the rains that nourish the growing grain. Thy thunder is music to the farmer's ear.

We kindle the sacred fire and offer unto thee, O ye assembled gods. Accept our worship. Descend upon this sacrifice. Let thy grace be lavish and thy favor enduring. Make us prosper in all our works.
