Chapter 20

✦ ─── ⟐ ─── ✦

Discard all that has been learned, and be free of grief;

Assent or pandering,
Is the difference not minimal?

Good or evil
Are these not the exact same?

Humanity is that which fears
It cannot be made fearless;
But the wilderness has not yet been stamped out!

The masses are bright and beautiful,
As if devouring a sacrificial feast,
As if mounting a flower in spring

I alone am still! I betray no portent!
Like an infant who has not yet smiled!
Dejected and forlorn!
As if I had no home to return to!

The masses are in tandem,
And I alone am misplaced!
My human heart is a foolish thing;
Ignorant and chaotic!

The commonfolk are radiant,
I alone am dark as dusk,
The commonfolk are unburdened,
I alone am despondent,
Calm like the tides!
Adrift without cease!

The masses all have their use,
I alone cannot be tamed, as if savage
I alone am different from others,
For I take nourishment from the Mother
