The Wayfarer sits in the most honoured place among the ten thousand things
A prize for the good man
And a refuge for the bad
Handsome speech may curry favour
Honourable conduct may make one humane
But who can resist the evil of humanity?
The emperor is crowned
And three dukes appointed
Though respects are paid
Though they are given jade
Though they ride at the carriage front
It is nothing compared to traveling along the Way
Why did the ancients treasure Wayfaring so?
Has it not been said?
The seeker claims it
The sinful shirk from it
So it is an idol for the world
