✦ ─── ⟐ ─── ✦

Bengali poetry is inseparable from song, performance, devotional practice, print, political movement, and the changing spoken language. This room opens with Tagore's author-made English Gitanjali, not with a Bengali original. Readers should treat it as one international form of a much larger Bengali poetic life. Future coverage must include Bengali text and song traditions, medieval lyrics, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jibanananda Das, Jasimuddin, Sufia Kamal, the poetry of the Language Movement and Bangladesh, West Bengali modernisms, women, Dalit and Indigenous voices, little magazines, and diaspora.
