This room gathers the folklore of Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and Sark, islands of the old Duchy of Normandy whose people spoke Norman French and its island dialects long before English became common there. Its collections record festival customs, legends of the dolmens and holy wells, fairies, ghosts and witches, the records of the island witch trials, charms, nursery rhymes, songs and proverbs, and they keep the French and Guernsey French passages as they were written down, usually with the collectors' English beside them.
