This room opens with all five inherited books of Gargantua and Pantagruel in a historically composite English edition. It preserves Urquhart's Books I–III, Motteux's Books IV–V, named Ozell restorations, and Maitland Club notes while excluding Gutenberg's separately added Doré image program. The posthumous Fifth Book's attribution to Rabelais is uncertain; “complete” describes this edition's collection boundary, not equal authorial certainty.

Rabelais does not complete the Renaissance. Future coverage should place him beside Montaigne, Marguerite de Navarre, Hélisenne de Crenne, Louise Labé, Ronsard, Du Bellay, Amyot, Calvin, travel and medical writing, Reformation controversy, and original-language witnesses.
