This room gathers the folklore of the Tyrol and its neighbouring Alpine valleys, where German, Ladin and Italian were spoken side by side. Its collections, made by English-language writers who travelled in the mountains, retell the legends attached to particular peaks, lakes, mines, farms and castles: the Norgs and other dwarf-folk, giants and wild men, the beneficent mountain maidens, witches and sorcerers, the wild huntsman, the souls of the dead seeking redemption, and the saints of a devout Catholic countryside. Each book is presented in the form its compiler gave it, and its introduction says how far the tales were collected, selected or retold.
