This shelf begins with two complete public-domain witnesses. Isabella M. Anderton records tales told in the Tuscan Apennines and places them beside countryside sketches, travel pieces, and literary studies. R. H. Busk assembles Roman fairy tales, sacred legends, ghost and treasure stories, local traditions, comic tales, and comparative appendices. Both books preserve named historical acts of collecting and interpretation; neither is an unmediated transcript of a timeless regional voice.
