Pseudo-Ezekiel is a Hebrew text from Qumran Cave 4, preserved across several manuscripts (4Q385, 4Q386, 4Q387, 4Q388). It expands upon the visions of the prophet Ezekiel, including the valley of dry bones — here dramatized as a dialogue between Ezekiel and the Lord — a promise that the days will be shortened so Israel may inherit its land, and a vivid description of the chariot throne (merkavah). The dry bones passage is remarkable for its explicit resurrection theology: the bones reconnect, sinews grow, skin covers them, the four winds blow, and the dead stand up and bless the Lord. This translation works directly from the Hebrew transcription of García Martínez and Tigchelaar.

Fragment 1 — Prophecy Against Egypt

Fragment 2 — The Valley of Dry Bones

"For I am the Lord," the redeemer of my people, giving them the covenant.

And I said: "Lord, I have seen many in Israel who love your name and walk in the ways of justice. When will these things be? And how will they be rewarded for their faithfulness?"

And the Lord said to me: "I will make the children of Israel see, and they shall know that I am the Lord." vacat

And he said: "Son of man, prophesy over the bones and say: May bone connect with its bone and joint with its joint." And so it happened.

And he said a second time: "Prophesy, and sinews shall grow upon them, and they shall be covered with skin all over." And so it happened.

And he said again: "Prophesy over the four winds of heaven, and the winds of heaven shall blow upon them and they shall live."

And a great crowd of men stood up, and they blessed the Lord of Hosts, who caused them to live.

And I said: "Lord, when will these things be?" And the Lord said to me [...] and a tree shall bend over and straighten up [...]

Fragment 3 — The Hastening of the Days

And the days shall pass rapidly until all the sons of man say: "Are not the days hastening so that the children of Israel may inherit their land?"

And the Lord said to me: "I will not turn my face from you, Ezekiel. See — I will measure time and shorten the days and the years [...] a little, as you said to [...]"

Fragment 4 — The Vision of the Chariot

And the people of the [...] shall be [...] with a whole heart and a willing soul [...] he shall hide for a little while [...]

The vision which Ezekiel saw [...] the gleam of the chariot, and four living creatures. A living creature — and when they walk they do not turn backwards. Each living creature walked on two, and its two feet [...] was spirit, and their faces were each joined to the other.

And the form of the faces: one a lion, one an eagle, one a calf, and one human.

And there was a hand of a man attached at the back of the living creatures, and fastened [...] and the wheels — one wheel attached to another wheel while walking. And from the two sides of the wheels, streams of fire [...] and there were living beings in the middle of the coals, like coals of fire, like torches between the wheels and the living beings and the wheels.

And above their heads there was a vault like frightening ice. And there was a sound from above the vault [...]

Fragment 10 — Hanging on the Tree
