3Q9 — Cave 3, Qumran

Hebrew transcription of 3Q9 (Dibré Joshua / DibJos), as given in the Qimron composite edition. Three fragments in Herodian script; Fragments 2 and 3 yield apparatus-confirmed readings. Fragment 1 is entirely lacunose. Published in DJD III (Baillet, Milik, de Vaux, 1962), pp. 100–101.

שורה 3: נַעֲוֹתָם — their iniquities/perversities — from עוּת = to be twisted/perverted (apparatus: variant readings א and פ agree)

שורה 2: מוֹת פֶּשַׁע — death of transgression — cf. יחזקאל ג:כ; ויקרא כד:יז

שורה 3: אָלָה פַּת — oath, torn piece — cf. שמות כב:יג (evidence procedure: bring the torn piece); אָלָה = covenant oath/curse

שורה 4: בַּעֲדוֹ — in his behalf / on his account — cf. יהושע ז:יב (Israel cannot stand before enemies on account of the ḥerem violation)
