The Beatitudes is a wisdom text built around a series of blessings — "blessed are..." — addressed to those who seek and hold fast to Wisdom, personified as a woman. The parallels with the Beatitudes of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount are unmistakable, though here the blessings are directed toward the pursuit of wisdom rather than the marks of discipleship. Later fragments contain a striking allegory of Folly as a house of vipers, and a moving passage about the death of the wise. This translation works directly from the Hebrew transcription of García Martínez and Tigchelaar.

In the distress of his troubles, in the time of anguish — he does not abandon her. He does not forget her in the days of terror. In the humbling of his soul he does not despise her.
