Cebuano—also written Sebwano or Sugbuanon and often called Binisaya/Bisaya by speakers—is a major Philippine language with literary histories in Cebu, elsewhere in the Visayas, Mindanao, and diaspora. It is not Tagalog, modern Filipino, or a synonym for every Visayan language. This first room opens through Vicente Rama's 1921 Larawan, a complete historical Cebuano collection shaped by the newspaper worlds of Kauswagan and Bag-ong Kusog. Read it beside the Philippine introduction and reader's guide, which keep language, region, nation, and periodical mediation distinct.
