Tagalog is a distinct Philippine language and the historical base of the national language Filipino. Its literature is not interchangeable with all Philippine literature or with every later Filipino-language edition.

The first room contains Pascual H. Poblete's 1909 translation of Rizal's Noli Me Tangere, preserved in historical Tagalog spelling as an event in translation, print access, and nation-making.
