Romani Terms
Romani — The Indo-Aryan language and people historically spread across Europe after migrations from the Indian subcontinent.
Romany — An older English form often used by nineteenth-century writers for Romani language and people.
Gorgio — A non-Romani person; older texts may spell and use the term in inconsistent ways.
Fortune telling — A public trade and literary stereotype often associated with Romani people by outsiders; in these texts it must be distinguished from Romani culture as a whole.
