This room gathers Hungarian folk tales as they were written down and carried into English. The tales come from the printed collections of nineteenth-century Hungarian collectors such as John Kriza among the Székely people of Transylvania, John Erdélyi, Julius Pap among the Palócz, and Ladislaus Merényi. Each translation is preserved whole, with its translators’ introductions and comparative notes, so that the reader can see who collected the tales, where, and how they reached English.
