Attain perfect emptiness
Maintain true stillness

The ten thousand things arise in unison
And standing here, I watch them return

The throngs of men and matter
Each return alone, a homecoming to their root

This root is "stillness"
And to return is your mission

This mission is your "nature"
To ken your nature is "enlightenment"

To not ken it is insanity!
And will bring ruin

Know your nature
Only one who follows it may be noble
Only the noble may be kingly
Only the kingly may be heavenly
Only the heavenly may know the Way
And one who follows the Way may endure

Deprived of the Self, there can be no harm

致虛極
守靜篤

萬物並作
吾以觀復

夫物芸芸
各復歸其根

歸根曰靜
是謂復命

復命曰常
知常曰明

不知常
妄作凶

知常容
容乃公
公乃王
王乃天
天乃道
道乃久

沒身不殆
