Those ripe with Character
Are akin to a newborn

Wasps, scorpions, serpents, and snakes will not poison him
Savage beasts will not snatch him
Birds of prey will not carry him away

His bones are pliable, and his muscles tender, but he holds steadfast

Not yet knowing the union of male and female, he rises steadily
His essence at its utmost

He cries until the end of the day, yet his voice is never hoarse
His harmony at its utmost

To ken harmony is your "nature"
To ken your nature is "enlightenment"

Abundant vitality is "auspicious"
The heart's use of qi is "strength"

A thing in its prime is not long for life
It is Wayless
And the Wayless soon cease

含德之厚
比於赤子

蜂蠆虺蛇不螫
猛獸不據
攫鳥不搏

骨弱筋柔而握固

未知牝牡之合而朘作
精之至也

終日號而不嗄
和之至也

知和曰常
知常曰明

益生曰祥
心使氣曰強

物壯則老
謂之不道
不道早已
