If the people do not terrify their masters
Their masters will have complete dominion!

Do not disrespect their homes!
Do not despise their lifestyles!

Only what is appreciated
Appreciates

Knowing this, the Sage knows himself but does not reflect on himself
Is fond of himself but does not treasure himself
So discards the far, and embraces the here

民不畏威
則大威至

無狎其所居
無厭其所生

夫唯不厭
是以不厭

是以聖人自知不自見
自愛不自貴
故去彼取此
