Closing leaves of the first tome, in The Douay Old Testament (1609–1610)
The closing leaves of the first tome of the Douay Old Testament (Doway: Laurence Kellam, 1609): an address to the courteous reader, and the printed list of errata for the volume.
TO THE CVRTEOVS READER.
We haue already found ſome faultes eſcaped in printing, but fearing there be more, and the whole volume being ouerlong, to be examined agayne, we pray the curteous reader to pardon al, and amend them as they occurre.
Two Tables, one of the times of the old Teſtament: an other of the principal matters in the Annotations therof, shalfolow (God willing) with the other Tome: which we deſire, and hope to ſend you shortly. In the meane time, the gentle reader may pleaſe to ſupplie the want therof, as he may, by the Recapitulations of the Hiſtorie, and pointes of Religion, in the fiue firſt ages, already conteyned in this Volume, in their proper places: in the pages. 29. 47, 196. 701. and 934.
Errata
You may pleaſe to amend the more eſpecial errors, happened in printing, by reading thus:
| Page 57. line 29. | SALEM |

| Page 846: lin 39. | reioyce, that |
| Pege 1064: line 39: line 40. | how they eſcape many miſeries, which are neuer borne, birth |
| Page 1069: line 1. | nor I gainſay |
If our ſelues, or others shal finde more, we wil gladly correct them.
Colophon
The holie Bible faithfully translated into English, out of the authentical Latin. Diligently conferred with the Hebrew, Greeke, and other editions in diuers languages. With arguments of the bookes, and chapters: annotations. tables: and other helpes. By the English College of Doway. The first tome (Genesis to Job), Doway: Laurence Kellam, 1609 (STC 2207). Transcription: Early English Books Online Text Creation Partnership (EEBO-TCP), Phase I text A11777 (2007), released under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal public-domain dedication.
This is an archival transcription, not a Good Works Translation: the English is the Douay translators’ own, kept in the original spelling, with long s (ſ), u and v, i and j as printed. The Good Works Library converted the TCP text to this page, removing only markup, page breaks and line-end hyphens. In the print a cross (†) opens each verse and the verse number stands in the margin; here each verse is its own paragraph headed by that number. Marginal notes are gathered after each chapter under the number of the verse beside which they stand; where the print sets a reference mark in the text (a letter, four pricks ::, or a star *), the mark is kept at its place in square brackets. In prose sections the marginal notes stand at their places in square brackets. Marks that the transcription records in the text are kept as they stand: ▪ is the transcribers’ sign for a printed mark they could not set, which this edition’s key to its marks uses to point to an Annotation after the chapter, and “ is another such printed mark. Words the transcribers could not read are marked ⟨illegible⟩ (0 on this page); none has been filled in by conjecture.
The heading “Errata” on this page is the library’s, added for the reader’s way-finding; the print gives the errata list without a heading.
