Opening Divine Directions

The Osashizu (おさしづ, "Divine Directions") is one of Tenrikyo's Three Scriptures. It is a large record of divine directions delivered after Oyasama's withdrawal from physical life, mostly through Iburi Izo, the Honseki, between 1887 and 1907.

This page presents the opening entries of a Good Works Translation from public-domain Japanese witnesses in the National Diet Library. It is an opening selection, not the complete Osashizu. It is not copied from a modern official translation or from a modern database. The entries below are translated from NDL PID 1101507, Osashizu Zenshu: Meiji 19-22 (1927), checked against the earlier NDL PID 911225, Osashizu: From Meiji 19, Twelfth Month, to Meiji 21, Twelfth Month (1917).

January 4, 1887

Now, now. Matters have been pressed all the way to the limit.

Until now I have told you every sort of thing, yet you still do not understand clearly. However much I speak, there is no one who understands. This is My regret. You go on living in doubt; think deeply on it.

If what God says were false, this path would not have continued from fifty years ago down to today. What has been spoken until now has already shown itself. Think from that.

Now then: will you draw back as you are, or will you bring this to settlement?

Oyasama's Talk

Now, now. Do you think I have grown weak with age? Do you think this is difficult because of illness?

It is not illness. I have not grown weak.
