A Good Works Translation from Hesperia BDHespP.02.01
A bronze tessera in the shape of clasped right hands preserves a compact Celtiberian hospitality formula in Latin letters. The inscription names Caisaros of the Cecciq group and Argailo, placing a social bond in the small legal-religious world of Celtiberian hospitality tokens.
Translation
Caisaros of the Cecciq group: a hospitality pact with Argailo.
Translation Note
The Hesperia text reads CAISAROS CECCIQ(VM) K(A)R / ARGAILO. K(A)R is the Celtiberian institutional word commonly connected with hospitality, friendship, or the pact-token itself. CECCIQ(VM) is kept as a group or family-name genitive, and ARGAILO is rendered as the other named party in the compact formula. Because Celtiberian syntax remains partly debated, the translation keeps the sentence elliptical rather than adding a full legal verb.
Object Note
Hesperia records the object as BDHespP.02.01, from Paramo Ciudad at Paredes de Nava in Palencia, with reference K.15.01. It is a bronze hospitality tessera formed as clasped right hands, written in Latin letters by puncturing, and held by the Archaeological Museum of Palencia. The complete text is short, but it is a whole object inscription, not an excerpt from a longer source.
Colophon
This page translates Hesperia BDHespP.02.01 from Celtiberian for the Celtic continental expansion of the Good Work Library. The object is included as a complete Celtiberian hospitality-tessera witness and as part of the wider push to make continental Celtic legal and ritual sources visible beside the better-known classical narratives.
